Guess who was RIGHT to bring back 2 QB's? Including an experienced one with deep playoff runs. Yeah John Lynch was. Who looks really smart now?

Executive of the year when we win the Super Bowl

It was a GREAT move especially if we make a deep playoff run. Which we are very capable of doing. He got criticism. But it was brilliant.

This is the same guy that traded three 1st round picks for Trey. Hindsight would be better to keep all those picks at this point. Could have drafted better O line and LBs.

Yes I would rather keep those picks and stick with Jimmy G. But AFTER that was done at least he had the foresight to bring back a good and experienced starting QB with deep playoff runs. So for that he gets credit IMO.
And they've continued to draft well in the later rounds getting impact players on cheap deals

They draft well late. Look at Hufanga this year. Year after year they do it. George Kittle too.

Another Edge or top LB would be fine with me. Drake has been outplayed by Ebukam after all the hype so far.

What? Drake has played real well, I don't know what you're watching

Didn't see his name called once today. He's absent on the stat sheet.

Stats aren't everything you know? Doesn't mean he wasn't good.

I saw this on a other thread too lol

Kyle wanted Mac at 3, then all the noise came in about how they were going to reach for Mac and wasted picks on a guy who would be around at 13, and next thing you know he was talked into taking Lance.
If you watch the college tape, Mac was the most accurate, but they knew ihe was a high floor, low ceiling guy with his arm and legs. They thought they could turn Lance into a Josh Allen.

Which he is. Andy Dalton 2.0. You don't draft that at 3. You swing for the fence.

Don't think he was talked into taking Lance at all. He's just playing things too conservative with Trey in the pass game because he doesn't see everything yet. He has to get over that.

No it's Mac. He's already going on the road throwing the ball everywhere winning against hard defense. Fields is trash. Just watch his career., He'll just watch tonight. But Mac on this team would be crazy

If you were impressed with Mac Jones today your standards are very low. If the Steeelrs dbs and special teams could catch the Steeelrs win that game.

You cant be serious with this Faithful. JL and Shanny completely lucked out in this regard. They get absolutely zero credit for this.

Yes & No, Yes because they didn't listen to the fan base saying to cut Jimmy when he had a $7.5M injury guarantee, No because they said they wanted to trade Jimmy, but the situation worked out the way it did, just be happy we have Jimmy still, and can compete with anyone, IMO anyway.

Ask yourself.. how many would have just cut the man.. we did not. The narrative all along from JL was we get real comp deserving of a starter QB or you can walk. Now we benefit from that mindset. I saw posters saying flip him for a 7th. Thank you to JL we didn't.

We did everything in our power to get rid of Jimmy. Ok, you want to give him credit for not cutting him? Fine. But the QB situation was mismanaged from the jump, and I absolutely refuse to give JL and Shanahan credit for lucking into Jimmy staying. They literally did everything to try to get him off this roster short of cutting him. And IF Jimmy didnt agree to a $6.5M contract, you can bet your ass thats what they would have done.

They get credit for not cutting Jimmy. Thats as far as I will go. But even that comes with a bit of an asterisk because they absolutely would have if Jimmy didnt agree to a massively reduced contract.

3 first round picks. Who's idea was that? Then draft an unknown, where you have to run him because he can't pass good. On what plant is that? Gonna take hate they didn't get Mac Jones. This is a mess.

No they won't. Trade up sure but you don't trade up to 3 to take a guy you didn't need to move up for.

The mistake will be Fields if anything.

They traded up to 3 and didn't even know who they were taking. They admitted this themselves. I find that to be too cavalier with draft capital but that's how they are. They trade up to take guys like Pettis and Sermon. The late round picks panning out has saved this regime. Otherwise they would look terrible.

That applies to all NFL and regime. If you take out the picks that works out they look terrible.

I don't think John is going to be here next year. I think there was some truth to that rumor this past offseason about him thinking of leaving for a TV gig.

He knows Kyle has all the power in this organization... no way Jed moves on from Kyle. If John disagrees with how Kyle is using Trey, he's kind of stuck... he knows what's going to happen again next season if Trey makes if back in time.

I'm sure John didn't like how Trey was used last year at Arizona....and I'm sure John and Kyle have had various conversations in the offseason... he had an idea how Kyle planned to use Trey this season, so maybe that's where the rumors came from. Imo he's gonna want to bail before it gets worse around here. While his price tag is still high for a TV gig.

Interesting take but then why didn't Lynch leave this past off-season?

Maybe Amazon or Fox didn't reach his asking price, a price that was enough to get him to leave early before watching his investment play a full season with the rest of the Super Bowl ready team.

He was in charge of trading Three 1st round picks for a QB that is not being used for two years in a row now. I don't believe that Kyle wanted Trey this whole time. The story of Kyle being excited and drawing up plays on the plane bla bla.. is just stuff for the media and fans to eat up and reassure them of the selection. It just seems John pressured Kyle into taking Lance. Probably told him to choose Fields or Lance. Or if by chance one of the other two QBs taken fell, then they would have taken them. No way they would use the #3 overall, after the trade to get them there... for Mac Jones.

Kyle gives me the impression of a person who doesn't like being forced something. He and his Dad were forced RG3, when they wanted Kirk Cousins on the field. Pops and Kyle said fine.. we'll use him how he should be used..until he couldn't be used anymore. Might be the same with Trey... you forced him on me, I'll use him to make sure I win drives...win the game... regardless what happens long term.

I'll have a better idea when I hear John Lynch soon. He'll be doing his radio interview tomorrow or Wednesday I think. Even I don't think he'll roll with the whole company PR campaign of "injuries just happen... we need to use all of Trey's skillset... YOU HAVE TO USE ALL OF HIS SKILLSET!" lol BS.

John will try to spin it some otherway. And I'm curious to hear how he does it, and if anything slips.

This is all gut feeling obviously... just going based off various things from hearing them speak..and their actions... it can be way off... or parts of it can be true. We'll see right?

His answer to the rumor about the TV stuff didn't come off like he'd be here for the next 5 years or something. I'll try to find that radio interview.

Edit- here's his response at the back to football season press conference.

"From time to time, opportunities are presented, and I can tell you, and tell everyone that my commitment right now is to this organization. We're just coming off a season, but my commitment is to the 49ers, the York family, to Kyle (Shanahan).

Why entertain opportunities two years into your 5 year contract extension? Is that a promotion?

"My commitment right now is to this organization"
Instead of
"My commitment is to this organization"
