Give this man his flowers. We're down QB1, RB1, LT, DE, DT, DT, CB2, FS1, and now kicker and still manage to be competitive.

I firmly believe we have the best roster in the NFL, and the deepest roster in the NFL.

And this revolutionary rest plan where cycle dudes through 4 week IR/rest plan to keep them fresh for later in the year…. Brilliant

like 99% of our 1st round picks are either no longer with the team or injured

Haha. I love this take.

Just goes to show how good the other picks were.

The ones that we think Peters picked. So Lynch just shoots and misses almost every time?

Yeah, clearly Lynch's first picks in each draft aren't looking too hot...might want to restructure their approach here. Kyle's doing a little better with that 2nd pick. Mid-round is pretty mixed. But the later rounds where Peters and his team of scouts seem to pull more weight, seems to be saving this regime big time because they barely dip into FA for outside help.
Do we really know their draft mechanics on who picks what? It seems like a lot of speculation

Definitely.
Trading away Buckner, who iirc, was our healthiest dline man, stings in games like these

This man is the GM of the leagues most injury riddled team. Stop pretending that he has no part in that. He has some responsibility for our injury problem.

Biggest mistake ever.

Buckner is old news.

The real miss was letting DJ Jones, who's wrecking games in DEN, walk and expecting to replace him with a guy who does not have knees.

Charlie Day was right. People's knees suck

I don't think John is going to be here next year. I think there was some truth to that rumor this past offseason about him thinking of leaving for a TV gig.

He knows Kyle has all the power in this organization... no way Jed moves on from Kyle. If John disagrees with how Kyle is using Trey, he's kind of stuck... he knows what's going to happen again next season if Trey makes if back in time.

I'm sure John didn't like how Trey was used last year at Arizona....and I'm sure John and Kyle have had various conversations in the offseason... he had an idea how Kyle planned to use Trey this season, so maybe that's where the rumors came from. Imo he's gonna want to bail before it gets worse around here. While his price tag is still high for a TV gig.

Interesting take but then why didn't Lynch leave this past off-season?

Maybe Amazon or Fox didn't reach his asking price, a price that was enough to get him to leave early before watching his investment play a full season with the rest of the Super Bowl ready team.

He was in charge of trading Three 1st round picks for a QB that is not being used for two years in a row now. I don't believe that Kyle wanted Trey this whole time. The story of Kyle being excited and drawing up plays on the plane bla bla.. is just stuff for the media and fans to eat up and reassure them of the selection. It just seems John pressured Kyle into taking Lance. Probably told him to choose Fields or Lance. Or if by chance one of the other two QBs taken fell, then they would have taken them. No way they would use the #3 overall, after the trade to get them there... for Mac Jones.

Kyle gives me the impression of a person who doesn't like being forced something. He and his Dad were forced RG3, when they wanted Kirk Cousins on the field. Pops and Kyle said fine.. we'll use him how he should be used..until he couldn't be used anymore. Might be the same with Trey... you forced him on me, I'll use him to make sure I win drives...win the game... regardless what happens long term.

I'll have a better idea when I hear John Lynch soon. He'll be doing his radio interview tomorrow or Wednesday I think. Even I don't think he'll roll with the whole company PR campaign of "injuries just happen... we need to use all of Trey's skillset... YOU HAVE TO USE ALL OF HIS SKILLSET!" lol BS.

John will try to spin it some otherway. And I'm curious to hear how he does it, and if anything slips.

This is all gut feeling obviously... just going based off various things from hearing them speak..and their actions... it can be way off... or parts of it can be true. We'll see right?

His answer to the rumor about the TV stuff didn't come off like he'd be here for the next 5 years or something. I'll try to find that radio interview.

Edit- here's his response at the back to football season press conference.

"From time to time, opportunities are presented, and I can tell you, and tell everyone that my commitment right now is to this organization. We're just coming off a season, but my commitment is to the 49ers, the York family, to Kyle (Shanahan).

Why entertain opportunities two years into your 5 year contract extension? Is that a promotion?

"My commitment right now is to this organization"
Instead of
"My commitment is to this organization"

Since this is all supposition, I believe John Lynch is having the time of his life here, and loves what he is doing. I also don't believe that John was the one who wanted Trey all that much, but didn't disagree with his friend and HC,, Kyle.

Getting to build a NFL team is the ultimate in football management. Especially if you have a good friend who is HC, who also happens to be an excellent play caller. Granted, Kyle is quirky, but he surely designs and calls intriguing plays. I can't think of any reason why John would want to leave the situation he has now . To me it seems he is sitting in the catbird's seat. He was a tough as nails defensive back who earned his SB ring the hard way…he played NFL football for it. He is obviously well connected across the NFL, knowing most every player, HC, DC, GM and owner in the league, thanks to his former stint on NFL Sunday TV. The guy is smart, articulate, extremely good with people, and is liked by virtually everyone.

If he chooses to try another avenue of employment, i would be extremely surprised. Right now he is at the apex of his career, helping build a team with basically only 3 starters initially, into a full 53 man squad.

This is also just supposition on my part, but i don't think John is going anywhere, anytime soon. Like you, i am just guessing.
