I can't believe more haven't jumped on this. Thank you for this.

It's a nice peeling of the curtain back here:
1. It sounds like the pro and player personnel leads are just titles. Both have and gain experience in both the draft and free agency evaluations.
2. Starts with analytics and then validated with film study. Sometimes those analytics point to the player directly for review.
3. This is a New England FO model.
4. The late rounders, it sounds like the assistant coaches each get a turn and they lean heavily on the scouts there. But if a player like Elijah Mitchell ends up appearing better than Holland's upcoming LB pick, they'll pivot to the better player in collaboration.
4. Collaboration, collaboration, collaboration.

If there's anyone that the 49ers could bring in to replace Carthon, Trey Brown would be a really intriguing option if he chose to leave the Bengals. He's got experience as a former NFL player, has scouted for the Eagles and Patriots, he has GM experience in the XFL and AAF, building playoff teams at both stops and has been a key member of the Bengals front office as well.

Any idea why Louis Riddick never caught on? Even if not as a GM, not being brought in over personnel, etc?

I have always been curious about this.

he had some looks but didnt catch on.

Id bring him in. I don't recall him making absurd takes too often and its clear he wants to be with a franchise.

Riddick was bitter and angry after Lynch got the job in 2017.

Rumors hint Riddick was the 2nd choice.

He may have burned bridges with how he responded.

I remember him saying odd s**t about 49ers around that time

https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/103471-louis-riddick-now-calls-49ers-worst-inherited-situation/

I will read this but before I do- can you blame him? A terrible franchise (this was the 49ers in January 2017) brings me in for a GM interview, I have experience and credentials, and they hire a broadcaster with NO personnel experience! Obviously the Lynch hire has been great, but I'd think the whole interview was a sham if I were Riddick. I totally get it. That comes off worse than hiring Chip Kelly and Jim Tomsula.

Its justified anger and I hope that isn't the reason he isn't considered.

The part you blame him for is doing it publicly

Zero professionalism. NFL GM is all about your connections. Lynch has this in spades.

Also...it wasnt a sham. Riddick was going to be paired with Josh McDaniels (our leading candidate at the time)...we went with KS instead (bc Denver said no...lucky for us).

http://www.bayareasportsguy.com/louis-riddick-on-josh-mcdaniels-decision-to-turn-down-49ers-hes-in-a-position-where-he-can-be-choosy/

I get it and agree. I am talking about his perception of the process after again, the broadcaster with no personnel experience gets hired. With that said, it worked out for Riddick to not be paired with McDaniels.
Since the Trey Lance thread appears to be locked, I will suggest a Trey Lance trade here. Daboll says he is not committed to Daniel Jones. He also developed Josh Allen who is often compared to Trey Lance. How about NY's late first for Trey Lance, who I think would be about as good as Jones immediately, and has a much higher ceiling? Seems like that could work for all sides.

Also, I like Trey Lance much better than these QBs projected to the first round. Despite Lance's lack of experience, he now has more reps between college, pros, and preseason than Anthony Richardson has in college. If I was a GM, I would much rather trade for Lance than pick Richardson despite the two lost years.

Not a chance. It would need to be a haul similar to what we paid to get him. Trey hasn't proven to be worth less than where he was picked. He was viewed as a guy that needed time. Not much has changed. I say we'll have better value holding onto him and continuing to develop him. If Brock falters or gets injured, we'll have a dynamic young guy that knows this offense ready to go. He may very well turn out to become a great QB, no need to sell while his value is low.

If you believe that, then its an awful idea to make that trade.

They had their reasons for drafting him and Injury, not lack of ability has prevented them from being able to see that through.

At any rate, I'm looking for to see who is added to the front office to replace Carthon. The NFL is just going to pick us bone dry. We have 3 freaking general managers and two head coaches in this league in the last 3 years.

So I guess we will just let him walk in 2 years.

LOL, that's what I was wondering too.

Just a thought. The Lynch/Shanahan regime has not only developed/brought in elite players... but they've also brought in high-character, high work ethic, locker room guys, whose leadership serves us well in the deep playoff runs.

Fred Warner. Trent Williams. Kyle Juszczyk. George Kittle. Christian McCaffrey. Arik Armstead. Etc, Etc.

Not one locker room distraction. Everyone's committed to winning, and you can tell that everyone's just obsessed with grinding their practice habits and putting out the best performance they can on Sundays.

That all starts with the top-down vision of what they wanted the football team to be.
