I think thats how the 49er defense should be designed. You have a elite passer in Purdy. Augment that with an elite pass defense. If he gets ahead, he'll stay ahead with a ferocious pass rush and great secondary. Run defense is important, but look how the eagles offense basically played keep away from the 49ers and stopped the run that way. I'd rather have Fred Warner and Drey Greenlaw level athletes in the secondary vs the LB corps.

Will you feel that way in 2 weeks when the Chiefs torch this Eagles defense? When Kelce goes crazy in the middle of the field because their Linebackers are horrible.
Kelce and McKinnon. If they go off and the Chiefs win, it'll be a win for linebackers in the league.

The defense is fine, maybe an improvement at end to help out Bosa and some upgrade at DT to improve the run defense.

We'll see if that's the case. But I'm not advocating that the defense have weaknesses on the linebacker corps, just have it be lesser of the two other squads (DB and DL) Do have an above average LB corps, but the focus should be on making the DLine and the DBacks elite first. Draft picks should be going to those two squads and then plug in free agents at the LB positions.

I agree, the defense is fine - for a Jimmy type QB. But if Purdy/Lance is an elite passer, then I think you have to redesign the defense to compliment such a elite passer. Just my two cencents on.

And thats why I think Kyle goes with Wilks (who is a defensive back oriented coach) instead of a Linebacker guy in a Demeco 2.0 or Salah 2.0.

Yeah, but I'm confused. What does the defense have to do with the offense?

Complementary football. Defense helps offense, offense helps defense - and special teams help both. For example there are two ways to stop an opponents running attack. One is to have great linebackers that can stuff the run, the other is simply to play keep away on offense, reduce the opponents time of possession where they can't run, fall behind, and have to pass.

Not saying we should have sucky linebackers, but I am saying let's get the DLine and DBacks elite like the eagles while at the same time doing the best they can to keep the Linebacker corps strong.

Got ya, but I still think we're fine.

I understand the idea. Like when Peyton Manning said his offense scored too much too fast and D was on the field a ton all season so they were burnt by the playoffs etc. There's truth to all that, but imo the biggest issue on this roster has been the QB position not performing in the end. Whether its injury or bad play its just been the Achilles heel. Now I tie that into Offensive line and pas protection as well, but in the end if we had better QB play we would probably would have had better outcomes the last 5 years. The rest of the roster is fairly loaded at this point imo.

So for me - keep trying to improve the trenches, (especially o line) otherwise its the common sense reload/upgrade where obvious or where the opportunity presents itself and pray Trey or Brock are finally the answer at QB.

Yes, we need more QB pressure and also quicker outside LB to stop the runs. Philly ran to the outside and killed us.

All in on Gipson and Griese, but on Kin, i think it is time to acknowledge his physical knee limitations and move on. Tendinitis is one thing but arthritis…is entirely different scenario.. it looks and feels like the Dee Ford situation except without the outlandish contract If the cap hit hurts us then another yr keeping him around and hoping the knees do better….maybe it works. But counting on Kin to be healthy, now looks a lot less promising.

I was a fan during the draft process and he was one of their team captains. He lined up all over the place FS, SS slot. Wouldn't hate at all
