Exactly. I guess you could call them "luxury picks" and I guess some people might be of the mind that our roster is good enough for luxury picks but until we win the big one I disagree. We lost because of a few very specific personnel gaps and our FO seemed to go out of their way to not address them.

Agree. We still don't have that guy. Need a guy for 2 downs only to really maximize the Hargrave signing. I think the 49ers just intend to play from ahead as their run defense.

Playing ahead works for a lot of the season (I mean our run defense #s looked great when we were front-running scrub teams last year) but it falls apart in the playoffs.

I think they trust the new DT and Floyd that we signed. Must really believe in kalia too. I do agree that I thought they would target a DT somewhere but just didn't fall that way.

im curious who gets cut post June 1.

I'm definitely not surprised we didn't go DT, we have plenty of depth there and several guys that are equipped to play the run.

I expect next year to draft DT with one of our first 3 picks.

Those "gadget" players we got full a gaping hole on offense. We didn't have a quick/shifty/precise route runner to help with man coverage (big reason we lost to KC/BAL). We didn't have a reliable second back that was a bruised but also fast and can catch - Mitchell was always hurt.

we also lost the super bowl cause burford is a dipsh!t. So replacing him with a much better pass blocker was huge. Getting a center (Kingston) to develop and versatile was super important.

Looks like a super weak d line draft too. Only DT I thought was an awesome player was the guy the Seahawks took in the first.

I like this draft. I think we got a lot of really quality players that provide something we needed. Route running, speed, pass blocking, nickel corner.

Ya definitely wasn't a good draft for DL talent.

They were easily covered by Baltimore and Kansas City. So we need guys who can beat man coverage. I still want a much better offensive line. We need to upgrade a lot.
the last pick has to be TE, or DT/DE?
We have no OT depth if Trent goes down forget it

Yeah that's a problem.
when was the last time the 49ers went without drafting a DL/DE in a draft?
We got guys we liked since we didn't need to draft for need.

Best roster in the league according to us.

Ya it was deep and about 6-7 got drafted in the first round. Drafting the 8th best OT with our first round pick would've been stupid.

Puni can play RT as well, that's his college position anyways. He's 6'5 so I don't see the issue. Great pass blocker, needs to be better at run blocking, so hopefully that's our future RT.

Nobody said we should draft the 8th tackle with our first pick. A focused effort on adding young talent to the line would have been obvious, it would have included some trades and it would have yielded excellent talent with the capital we had. It is VERY obvious that was not our focus.
Solid draft, still hate the hole at OT.
Here's my initial reaction.

I like who they drafted, pretty much everyone tbh. However, I'm not happy they ignored o-line early.

So they took players I like, but in lieu of offensive line again and that will probably bite us in the ass because that's how it rolls for this franchise. Other teams totally dove into this o line class depth and we ignored it.
