It's okay. We've had four of five seasons of long playoff runs. Thats like an extra season. They need a physical and mental break. Play the rooks more, play loose, and see where the chips fall. But yeah there is a lot of football left to play.

Imagine someone saying this during the Montana years.
Kill me now.

The best move he can make is to go back to the booth. And it would be great if he could take Kyle with him. We need to rebuild on and off the field.

Different generation of players and coaches. TNF, now a 17 game schedule..anyway, it takes a toll. Montana was beat to a pulp.

Not that I would ever want this, but the 80s/90s teams never had more than two straight seasons of "long playoff runs" (assuming this means 3+ games), and had 16 game seasons rather than 17 (a couple even shorter).
Playoff games, 1981-1998:
1981 - 3 (19 overall)
1982 - 0 (9) (strike shortened)
1983 - 2 (18)
1984 - 3 (19)
1985 - 1 (17)
1986 - 1 (17)
1987 - 1 (16) (strike shortened; replacements for 3)
1988 - 3 (19)
1989 - 3 (19)
1990 - 2 (18)
1991 - 0 (16)
1992 - 2 (18)
1993 - 2 (18)
1994 - 3 (19)
1995 - 1 (17)
1996 - 2 (18)
1997 - 2 (18)
1998 - 2 (18)
Compared to the last five years:
2019 - 3 (19)
2020 - 0 (16)
2021 - 3 (20)
2022 - 3 (20)
2023 - 3 (20)
60 games in 3 seasons the last 3 years. That's 4 more games than SF's best stretch high mark of 56 games in 1988-1990, with that team struggling more than usual in 1991.

You don't scout/do your due diligence on Mahomes in 2017 while holding the 2nd overall pick . Start there!

I mean, 31 teams will be regretting not trading their entire compliment of picks for Mahomes for the next 15 years. Nobody thought SF would take a QB first with their #1 that draft, and definitely nobody thought Mahomes was SF bound.
Even with that, it's the KC defense that has them winning these days.

Thats wasted mental energy. Unless you like beating dead horses. It's like regretting the investment you didn't make everytime you run into financial problems.
Team building philosophy is something to address but there are better places to start than not drafting Mahommes. We have a good enough QB, even though he had the worst game of his career.

Is he actually good enough though? He's due for a massive contract while the rest of the roster is aging, hurt, and meh.

Can we have on OL like the Lions? Less hands on balls and more dominating at the line of scrimmage.

That is a super odd thing for a 49er fan to say considering how many wasted season Joe Montana had....
Montana never played that many games in a 5 year run....Nor did he have this many consistent playoff runs in a row.
For starters, seasons use to be shorter..... There was a strike season....from 85 to 87 Montana was 0-3 in the playoffs with zero TDs and 4 picks, By the 88-91 run they had back to back to back SB/Deep playoff runs... in 91 they collapsed and had to reboot(missing the playoffs). Actually....this season kind of feels like the start of 91...they are having to plug in new players. By 92-93 we could not get by Dallas in the playoffs...so kinda close to our current situation...unfortunately there is no Ken Nortons, Ricky Jacksons and Dion Sanders to just drop onto this roster to get over the hump.

No not when Kyle has complete control of the offense and roster. He doesn't care about improving o-line. Never has

Not gonna happen until Kyle gets fired!
