Green and Mustapha are getting valuable playing time in the secondary. Green will be big because C Ward is gone. He will likely start next year. Mustapha loos like a big hitter who has enough lateral speed/quickness to be a good cover guy.

Puni is going to be shoe in at G for the next decade.

Guerendo is rapidly improving to the point where I think he needs to continue to get touches, even if CMC is back and Mason is healthy. His acceleration is very reminiscent of Mostert (maybe not quite as fast).

Cowing just needs opportunities. As a PR guy I don't really trust him, though.

Also Evan Anderson is technically a rookie. He is playing meaningful snaps on the D line.

Good post!

If we can get 2025 draft like this one we'll be doing very well.

It feels a tad like 1986...

It feels like a reload with dudes who can start or at least challenge to start

Those first 4 or 5 picks are solid dudes.

Don't expect we got 3 pro-bowlers like 86, but yeah good draft
Lynch is GM of the year!
Rookie class currently on the active roster:

WR Pearsall
WR Cowing
OL Puni
CB Green
S Mustapha
RB Guerendo
LB Bethune
DT Anderson

Still early, but based on performance, these guys are passing the eye test, this class looking pretty great so far.

Honestly, having Puni starting, Guerendo taking key snaps at RB, and likely Pearsall as a starter or key WR moving forward would be enough for me to declare, at least within the first year assessment window, this one of the best 49ers draft classes in the Kyle era. But you add in Mustapha and Green that's another level. I wish Kyle would try Cowing at WR more but perhaps that comes with time.

Waaaaaay too early.

I can still recall posters hyping up players like Ambry Thomas, Ji'Ayir Brown or Spencer Burford.

Puni does look great tho.

Yep. I thought our drafting would deteriorate fast when Adam Peters left but it seems to have gotten better!

Same on the bold. Cowing had a good block on the Pearsall run and was getting open last week, including one big gainer. I think he can be a great piece going forward. I think Deebo stays next year with Aiyuk hurt, but imagine a top four of DEEBO-JENNINGS-PEARSALL-COWING 👀

To play devil's advocate...the work creating our draft board was done by Peters before he left

We will know more next year

Was going to add a couple comments. First, the draft class certainly looks promising. Second, signing Jennings was very astute, and with the Aiyuk situation, critical. Third, the team was Smart with letting AA go and bringing in a couple interesting DT pieces. They still need defensive line help, but I always find the Lynch/Shanahan moves to be rooted in a consistent plan.

Three areas the niners could use some shoring: OL (it has some pieces, but a couple of the guys starting should be backups), DL, as previously stated needs some help, LB (Warner is world class, but he needs Greenlaw back).

I think your point is very fair. I was hoping they would retain him by "promoting" Lynch and giving Peters the GM title. Look at the impact he's made in Washington in one offseason already.

Peters was part of it. He wasn't the only guy putting the board together.
Great class this year to help build for the future. But I feel not having those draft picks for Lance leaves some holes that could have been filled. There are several aging star who will probably be gone in a couple of years. Just would have been nice to have those early picks to hopefully fill those holes.

Gee, I wonder if anyone on here predicted this happening...

Not to mention the 49ers don't just stack a traditional draft board and go down the line as players are picked. We've discussed this before in the draft section, but they use a draft system that was brought over from New England by Adam Peters. The system basically revolves around targeting very specific players based on how they fit on the 49ers' system/roster. Those players will be priorities for the 49ers irrespective of their perceived draft value by the rest the league. This is a large reason why there have been so many reaches and bad value picks in their drafts over the years. Obviously this is an oversimplification, but it's the gist of what John Lynch described when he explained their new draft system back in 2017.

There's been all this talk about the different players we could trade for before the deadline. We definitely need to make a trade or two in order to make a run this year. I feel like we will be disappointed and we won't pull off any trades to improve this team though.

Seems like people expect one because of the past couple of years… but of course we have to keep in mind it's not exactly easy to get another team to agree to trade away a good player. We'll have to be aggressive and give away a couple valuable picks to get a player or two who can really help us make a run.

I'd prefer to keep the picks.
