Trent made some good picks too. People forget he drafted a lot of core players from the Harbaugh run and also a few of the early Kyle players.

McCloughan made most of those picks.

Not really. Trent and his merry band of comp picks started in 2010.

the cap is gonna go through the roof in 2026
high cap or not, John Lynch has a rough offseason ahead of him. he's strapped to two extremely overpriced/oft injured/underproducing receivers that are gonna be hard to move, an aging roster, Purdy's deal,CMC's mortality after this years madden curse almost ended his career, trading/cutting some big names and nailing the draft to get some good young talent in here. Kyle gets a stay of execution based on previous success and injuries this year but I'd still hate to be Lynch after this season

Looks like we can hold off on Purdy unless he balls out to close the season.

Not sure how to cut Debo unless it's post June 1. I'm guessing he will show up to camp fitter than ever and it will be hard to just cut him.

Banks seems like a tough decision because we need continuity in the line of Lynch is going to replace C and RT.

Unless Huf plays incredibly to close this season out he's probably gone and we will need to draft a safety.

Other glaring issue is LB where we need a young thumper. Dre and Fred gave up their bodies for the team, but they're on the back ends of their career.

We need Kyle to call plays to Pearsall to see what he can do, especially if he's our top WR until Yuk returns.

Oh and we're taking TE and Kittle for granted. We need another Swiss army TE that can interchange with Kittle and Juice especially if Juice is also done

Good, Ronnie Bell needs a pay raise.

Re-extend juice, cmc, Deboo and moody.

So another offseason where everyone who just signed an extension says "I want more!!!" ?

Can't wait!
The Niners are like a guy that's losing his hair. At first you try and cover the thin area. Then it becomes an obvious combover. People notice and start pointing and laughing. Eventually you're faced with 4 choices. 1) Continue with the silly combover. 2) Buy an expensive hairpiece. 3) Go the hair transplant route and gradually regrow your hair. 4) Shave it off and go with a new look.

The Niners are in that combover stage trying to hide all the thin areas. What will they do. An expensive hairpiece (free agent) might help for awhile but it comes with it's own problems. The hair transplant route (drafting and adding some less expensive free agents) is probably the way they will go but transplants don't always work. I doubt they go with a total new look but that may be inevitable. We'll see.
Too many bloated contracts to make any real change. The cap skyrocketing might be the only reason we don't suck going forward.
Lynch is just a figurehead. Kyle makes all of the personnel decisions.

Banks is a pretty good guard but I onder if he could switch to center if they drafted a another guard. I'm just spit balling because I don't know if he can do that or not. I think the Niners need to explore all options.

Interesting analogy. I hope we shave off our DC, STC, and some of the financial albatrosses and poor performers.

Deebo and Hargrave are too expensive

Brendel, Banks, Jayir, Saubert, Givens, Moody, Yiadom, Luter, Jalen Graham, DFF, and Campbell are names I'd list as ABSOLUTE, "MUST REPLACE" guys. There are others who aren't good but aren't the worst and have a place as backups at least probably.

McKivitz is actually not doing bad. Better than I had been giving him credit for. Bartch looking interesting, and Moore has looked so solid that I wonder how good our OL would be if it was Trent-Moore-Bartch-Puni-Colton..

Thanks. I woke up at 2:00 last night and had trouble getting back to sleep. I started thinking about the Niners and for some reason that analogy popped into my head. It's the kind of stuff that happens when you get old. By the way, I opted for the shaved look.
I have a feeling our 2024 was hugely impacted by the changes in our scouting staff in the Summer 2023.

Recall, we added Frank Gore as a personnel advisor. The guy just knows ball and what a quality player looks like. I imagine he had some input on Guerendo.

Additionally, we promoted two guys to area scouts, Hayden Frey and Crowley Hanlon. The latter is now our West Coast area scout, meaning he likely vouched for Jarrett Kingston. Frey on the other hand, was made responsible for all star game and pro day evaluations. Puni was at the Senior Bowl. This means his report likely had a big impact.

They need to keep all those guys if so, because this looks like it could be the best class we've had in the past 5 years.
