If Lynch's head is on the chopping block for those reasons then Shanahan's should be aswell.

pure comedy, 2 Superbowl appearances and NFC championships. Ill take the botched Trey pick along with all the gold they found in the later rounds. ill take Lynch and Shanny over pretty much anything else there is in the NFL right now

He should be extended. Built a phenomenal roster and, when healthy, are always in the mix.
He botched plenty first rounders and the QB position! We are just lucky that Purdy was with us. Otherwise we would compete for first overall.

So the good picks are luck and the bad picks are incompetence- got it.

You fans overvalue first round selections. All they do is give you a better shot at getting a better player. Once they're selected there is no difference to the team in a first or seventh round pick. It just doesn't matter. All that matters is bringing talent in. Round does not matter.

He botched plenty? Are you counting the Lance pick 3 times? Cuz otherwise I'd argue he's 50/50 on first round picks which is probably better than average in the NFL.

2017 - Thomas - bust, did not get 2nd contract
2017 - Foster - bust, did not last through 1st contract
2018 - McGlinchey - avg starter, did not get 2nd contract
2019 - Bosa - great pick, but an obvious pick
2020 - Kinlaw - bust, did not get 2nd contract
2020 - Aiyuk - very good pick
2021 - Lance - bust, traded
2024 - Pearsall - tbd

He's 2/7 if you throw out McGlinchey, 3/7 if you wanna include him.

Either way, those percentages stink.

Who is your benchmark for a GM?

I never said he's a bad GM. I actually think John is a very good GM who didn't have his best year.

The drafts have been far from perfect but they've found some real gems in the later rounds to make up for the poor drafts early on. I actually give him a lot of credit for establishing the culture they have within the organization. It's clear that players love playing in SF.

They better not miss at #11. No more reaches or busts. Position need and blue chip player. No more trading up or down. Pick at #11 and it better be offensive or defensive line.

You just doomed us. They will pick anything but that now!

The majority don't even want Kyle fired. Anyone talking about firing Kyle or Lynch is talking nonsense.

Ask the bears, giants and browns if they would fire someone for gambling on a few picks when you already had a stacked roster versus having a s**tty 6 to 8 years

There are no guaranteed picks and no such thing as a safe pick. There are no guarantees of any blue chip prospects being available at 11 nor are there any guarantees the best value on the draft board at pick 11 is an OL or DL.

This? Like to know what the normal hit rate is for 1st rd picks?

So it Thomas resigned here for a cheap deal that's a hit? McG imo wasn't a bust at all. Dude made $85M in FA. We couldn't afford him. That's not a bad pick imo.
End of the day we've had one of the best rosters in football for a while. That's a good job imo

All true, and sometimes it's better to draft great players than positions of need. I'm all for the trenches, and believe that's where they will go. So hopefully we can grab a great player at OL or DL at 11. Raiders didn''t need Brock Bowers, with Mayer there, and Lions didn't need Gibbs. I wondered briefly what it would be like to have Tetaroia Macmillan, who might be a great player. (I know, another WR?)
I think it's good to have a fluid approach to the draft and let it come to you, rather than box yourself in.
Just thinking out loud, personally, I hope we get a great Defensive tackle,
