Free agency last year was an unmitigated disaster but the draft helped alleviate that somewhat. His job is going to be finding ways to reset and reload the 49ers roster around Brock Purdy. He's going to have to find a way to make this team younger, cheaper, and faster. Kind of like what the Rams have done. I think you let Ward, Greenlaw, Huf, and Banks walk if they sound like they're only looking for the largest offer.
Reset and reload is part of the FA strategy. They just didn't do much last year and the biggest signing Floyd played as expected IMO. The real payoff could be the comp picks we still have coming.

I agree with you. This 49ers team is going to live and die by how well they draft. They only way to maintain performance while getting cheaper is to find guys in the draft who produce. Last year turned out to be a great draft for the 49ers. That said, there have been a number of years where the team came up totally empty and that can't happen.
Let's include FA. A bunch of misses there too. And Buckner.....
Found a new bone to chew on, eh?
OMG, why is it every time people have to bring up Buckner, he hasn't been that great for the Colts, has yet to put up double digit sacks like he did here, also people forget his size is an issue, was an issue too, easy to push around, IMO he was best suited to be a DE in our scheme, not DT, but that's me, we need someone like D.J. Jones back inside, but people need to stop with this Buckner nonsense, he's also been injury prone for the Colts, I love Buck, miss him, but I've moved on, like I will if/when Deebo is gone.
