I never said he would, I was saying they draft a guy (Hennessy signed a two yr deal) let him develop a yr, then take over Brendel's spot next yr.

Brendel stinks, he's not the worst starting C in the league. I also believe he was dealing with tendinitis in both his knees all last yr. Not sure if he's recovered from that or not?

It is good. They were league average last year. Right in the middle of the pack.

Watch the games man. That's not what the eyeball test says.

it's a line built for a purpose, which is running the football. i would say we are strong there. pass pro, not as much

This, folks simply can't understand that. If they can't run block, regardless of how good they are at pass blocking (Trent brown) they will not get on the field.

this scheme is not a straight drop back passing offense. It all starts off the run.

also folks dramatize OL play overall. When they have a bad rep it's right there for everyone to see, when it's a good rep no one looks at the OL.

I'm not gonna say we have some elite level OL, I think it's middle of the pack based on what we like to do. I actually think we have one of the better OL coaches in the league who often makes chicken salad out of chicken s**t. I would love for him to get some better overall talent to work with…this isn't gonna be the year for that though.

All of this!!!! It's hilarious how people try to argue he's even less than average, which he is not. He ranks among the worst in the NFL at everything. He costs us games and more importantly, playoff games. He needs to go. I don't know how our front office still likes this guy. Maybe they don't know how to watch the tape or evaluate the position.

since Shanahan never starts rookies, especially at center, I think the best option would be to trade for a center that's already established. The Bears made some great moves for pretty cheap on the OL. I'm sure we could do the same but we won't.

I just hope that somehow Hennessy takes over Brendel directly this year,... no need of developing, plz,... it's the only way we can get rid of Brendel

Cheap?

Joe Thuney - 16 million
Drew Dalman - 14 million x 3 years
Jonah Jackson -
"According to Spotrac, Jonah Jackson's new contract extension numbers are out. 3 years, $52.5M with $29.75M guaranteed. Cap hits of $10.5M, $25M(!!!), & $17M in 2027. Deal is ultimately guaranteed until 2027 when they can get out of it for a $3.5M dead figure. #Bears"

But they have this great interior line now so that means they should be statistically better than us right?

He probably won't because you need time to understand the offense and protections. That's why drafting someone and letting them develop is probably more practical than tossing him in there year 1.

I would expect them to sign someone next yr vs draft a guy at center as the starter

Not defending Brendal at all, but here's another side to it

Funny what happens when players play next to mediocre players.

Is it a coincidence that McKivitz had his best year playing alongside Puni?

That being said, there's no way we can go into the season with Bartch as the starting LG.

LG is a much bigger need than C IMO

I still think that first one is on him. Puni had that handled.

Sidenote...reminder for some folks blaming Brady for pass pro issues. He's got plays like this out there as well.

That wasn't Bartch in the clip. Zakelj.

And no Center is a much bigger need and way more critical to the offense.

that first one (the only one I can watch) is mainly on Brendel,... Zakelj can have part of the blame but the main culprit there is Brendel,... he ends up giving his back to the play,... as he always does

And in this one against Chicago, the bears didn't add a 6th to the line,... what is this guy smoking?... there are 5,... just 5,... and it's not about leaving "the least dangerous of the 2 rushers" access to the QB because they are 5 against 6,... they are 5 against 5 and each DLinemen should engage his opponent,... the thing is that Brendel failed at that,... and it's all on Brendel because he engages the wrong man,... he engages the one who is running towards Puni which forces 74-Burford to take on the one who Brendel should have taken care of,... which, in turn, left Moore isolated in the edge against 2 opponents

Sure we need a center upgrade but with who?

The only guy that can maybe start over Brendel is Grey Zabel and we aren't using a 1st on him.
C'mon,..... there's no way of putting lipstick on this pig,... Brendel is trash,... and the sooner he's out of the team the better for the niners

Brendel wasn't even the 1st choice last year. Feliciano was the hope and C but he was e injured, collected his checks then called it a career.
