I love this movie. It was on the other day. It's become my pre-draft tradition to sit and watch. It should be on somewhere this weekend.
He got his ones back though..

lol yup. costner looks a bit like trent baalke here. they should do a draft day 2 where they don't have any picks they just are saddled with a bloated contract of a former star QB who is now a bust with off field issues.

Funniest thing about that movie is the idea that any GM, rookie or not would trade the 6th overall pick for 3 2nd round picks(with two being future ones) and expect that move to be thought off in a good way?
I gotta watch that movie. Been meaning too for years

I understand this, but this is also how we end up with players like Solomon Thomas over the likes of Mahomes. Just not a great draft strategy IMO.

Now I do think GM's can take these types of risks when picking at the bottom of every round with a strong roster, but when you have a high first round pick BPA should be the choice. Passing on gold jacket players for an average to below average player isn't a smart way to build a roster.

I think you're misremembering that draft or letting hindsight get to you.

We 100% went BPA in that first round and the draft grades after reflected that.

Mahomes was far from a top tier QB prospect. KC got a lot of flack for taking him when they did.

No prospect is a gold jacket player as a draft prospect. We've seen way to many "blue chip" guys have horrible careers.

I understand what you're trying to say but you chose a weird analogy to do it.

Mahomes is the type of QB Reid likes to draft. Remember Cunningham in Philly.

Also, as someone said, Kirk C was on the radar and the hope. If there wasn't animosity between Shanahan and the Redskins owner, we may have gotten him to.

Then is the fact that, you can only trade up or down if there is someone willing to tango. People forget that year no one wanted to move up cause there wasn't anyone, we got lucky moving back to #3. I thnk this draft if very similar to this one. If a QB slips to us and needs one- someone might come calling like they did for Mahomes. There is a good chance the Saints might be taking a QB because of the injury to Car, but they might not want to draft one at that position and might want to trade out a few steps, before pulling the trigger. Then we might be able to leap ahead if a player comes available that we really like.

I also think the niners sometimes like put people in positions that don't suit them Like Solomon and Arik, don't go moving them around!

I assume you mean McNabb cuz Cunningham was before Andy. Funny thing was Andy's chosen QB of the future was Paxton Lynch who Denver stole after trading up ahead of them.

KC moved back to take Chris Jones then their assistant GM sold everyone on Mahomes.

crazy how it goes sometimes. Best moves are ones you don't make.

Sad but true.
Welp one week boys… I bet their draft board is set except for later rounds. I would imagine the first four rounds are mapped with our next potential stars in wait. Dang can't wait till next week.
Anything other than Oline / Defense with first 5 picks really don't GAF who it is (Jeanty, TE, WR, whatever), please don't
