I like John Lynch and hope he succeeds. But every scout/personnel guy who has spent decades trying to climb GM ladder should be disturbed.

Trotter so butthurt

Agree. As if being on the higher rungs of that ladder guarantee a GM job.

Hire a top Offensive coach...check.
Add bright young talent to the FO...check.

Seems so far so good...

Young? He is 45.

He's done nothing to be called a young talent.

Played with Denver for Mike Shanahan 2004-07. That's the superficial connection I am aware of.

Mike probably comes in in some kind of role for assistance, I'd imagine

He's also a defense guy. I imagine the HC/GM relationship he and Shanny will have will split to some degree on offense/defense strengths.

Good points. Im willing to wait and see how this all works out.

If you wanted Steve Young for GM but are criticizing the Lynch hire........you's a hypocrite.

Well, Steve Young is a lawyer.

Which has what to do with being a GM?

Front office personnel have to know the CBA (legal document), understand contract law, and contracts. Many agents have a legal background. It doesnt qualify him to be GM, but there are several applicable skills, combined with his football experience.

Cool. Now show me the correlation of successful GM's (meaning they have won a championship) that are lawyers and make me a believer.

I think Lynch could be a major boost to this team attracting free agents. In terms of a public face of the organization you get someone that is highly intelligent, well-spoken and charismatic.

You go from this:

to this

John Lynch knows what winning is about and what it takes. He's also well known around the league and I wouldn't doubt well liked too. I can see Shanahan and Lynch meshing real well and to me that's the most important part, no more undermining crap.

Did they say this stuff about Elway whose only front office experience previously had been in the Arena Football League? Its like some huge affront that the 49ers have chosen a different path.
WTF, I'm gone from the zone for a day and you guys do this !

Plus he's been in around the game for over 20 years. People acting like they brought in a bus driver or something.
I actually like this hire a lot well spoken smart played in the league for 15 years all this no experience is bs is just that bs he's been around the NFL for almost 30 years I absolutely think this could be a homerun

John Lynch is smart, so the fact that he's this bad of a broadcaster means he's lazy. He's says dumb/wrong things all the time

Exactly! None of those guys give a f**k about what Lynch did 90 f**king years ago on a stacked defense where he didn't cover ANYBODY.

Hall of fame credentials prove otherwise.Go back and watch some highlights if you know no better. He would murder you.

I've watched him in person, in high school, college and the the Bucs. He's a cover 2 safety, the easiest safety position to play

No kidding and the guy has a higher role than just GM he is the Vice President. lol
I like it John lynch was a G as a player. This team needs some toughening up. It worked for Elway he is one of the best now. The s**t aint hard.
