This is not the craziest thing the 49ers have done in the post-Walsh era, but its in the WTF ring of honor.

Y'all are acting like the other "never been a GM before" candidates were a lock to be good or something. They could have flamed out or excelled just like Lynch.

They're bringing in a veteran personnel guy. How could you hate on that?

Lynch can close out any FA he gets on the phone. With a strong personnel guy -- how would his drafting be any better/worse than the other dudes?

So this mystery front office exec. gonna be Ronde Barber or Derrick Brooks?

Brilliant

Lynch really isn't the puppet type. If you think that then you need to read up on the guy. They actually brought a real football guy into the front office and he will be bringing in his own exec to handle personnel.

Sure, but with the track record of this ownership group the odds are stacked as high as Yao Ming standing on top of Manute Bol standing on top of George Mursean that it will happen.

Scouting, making a draft board, running a draft, trading players, signing players, working contracts...pretty much everything on the desired/required skills section of the application.

Its almost as if he's going to be bringing in a personnel guy to be handling most of that stuff along with Marathe and Gamble.

You mean the same Gamble nobody wanted around here a day ago?

Lynch with a 6 year deal amd Kyle at his side doesn't seem like a b***h to me. They can fire him and pay him and he goes back to FOX. Lol

Now I really wish the Niners had a Bill Polian type above the GM.

Well we have a Paraag Marathe for what it's worth
I havent heard one FA come out and say they want to come to SF and play for Lynch

John Elway didn't "deserve" the job he got. He got it because he was a Bronco legend. So not really the same thing as Lynch. It would be if it was Steve Young getting the GM job.

Do you think Broncos fans care if he "deserved" it or not at this point? He's done a much better job of handling his business than many highly touted GM candidates. He started off by delegating and leaning on his personnel people like Brian Xanders which is what I expect Lynch to do.

I think Lynch could be a major boost to this team attracting free agents. In terms of a public face of the organization you get someone that is highly intelligent, well-spoken and charismatic.

You go from this:

to this

John Lynch knows what winning is about and what it takes. He's also well known around the league and I wouldn't doubt well liked too. I can see Shanahan and Lynch meshing real well and to me that's the most important part, no more undermining crap.

This is our man.

I'm curious as to what make Lynch think he can and wanted the GM job. Media people should ask him his thought process in taking the Niners situation. Having Kyle Shanahan as the offensive minded HC is enticing certainly. But what all the other stuff that goes along with the job. Also, he must've given them/Kyle a credible assistant guy to compensate for his inexperience GM resume.

I'm guessing that Lynch had this idea in his mind for a year or two. He has had plenty of time to do his research on how to make a franchise work. He has sat down with Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones and Ozzie Newsome and Ted Thompson and Bill Belichick and on and on. He has picked a lot of brains about how they do it and sorted out what he thinks are the best of the best methods and will bring them to the job.

Just guessing about how long but the rest of that is fact.
