John Lynch - 49ers GM

All I keep hearing is that hes as smart as anyones ever dealt with in the game, will be the hardest worker in the organization, is a great talent evaluator, will get big respect from the players, and has outstanding business and communication skills.

Hes going to hire personnel guys to help with his lack of experience there, but hes very much qualified to run a FO.

Baalke was a highly respected scout, but he couldn't communicate, and was too stubborn to admit when his personally scouted talent wasnt good. Lynch is the opposite, and will do the actual job of GM, letting the scouting department do their job.

Im really liking the hire after the initial shock of disappointment.

I don't watch Fox Sports much. Does he come across as knowing his sh!t or not?

Yes, he absolutely does! I was just remarking on how well thought out his analysis was during the last week of the season. I'm pumped about this hire!!

Does he???

John Lynch is smart, so the fact that he's this bad of a broadcaster means he's lazy. He's says dumb/wrong things all the time

Who gives a F what Ben has to say? You?

I'll take the world of a Football Outsiders guy who at the time had no idea he would be an NFL GM, was just making a comment on his broadcasting.
You do that

Another dumb move. Similar moves like this include mike singleterry, tomsula, geep, o'neil, modkins and so forth.

There were so many good gm candidates and little competition and we pick a project. Not a good move.

If Lynch was hired as vice president of football operations and brought in his own GM, would you feel better about it? Because essentially that is what they are doing.

No. If we had a good FO i would feel better about.

No experience + Jedraag = No bueno

Plus a rookie coach needs a GM who know exactly what to do. I doubt a guy with no experience will be able to handle it.

Big risk at a high level position. Decisions like this is why dork will be paying three HC salaries this season.

All of you worried about scouting and free agency, I expect Gamble will be reatained,
and possibly Dominik brought in, Paraag will continue as the #'s guy, which he's dam good at

If they called Lynch the President of football operations would it make you like the move better?
I'd wait and see how this develops before you trash him without knowing his role

After watching 1-4 years of tape on players, going to games, talking to coaches, meeting with regional scouts, attending bowl games, going to the Shrine and Senior Bowl, then combine workouts, pro days, and conducting interviews...you then create a board and have value, circumstances, and trade possibilities for everybody. And then when the bullets start flying you draft based on what's happening and the moves you can make for players. You also need to evaluate gaining or losing future picks and/or current players at the same time, while also having somewhat of an idea on how it will affect the team and cap.

So one person does this all on their own? Which team's war room is that?

Pretty sure you could find 31 GM's at the senior bowl, normal bowl games, national championship, etc.

I'm willing to bet negative nancies that Lynch will do a lot better than Baalke when it comes to defense in the draft (and I thought Baalke wasn't that bad at times)...

Guaranteed to have a sick secondary at the very least

I know this is earlier today but still, knowing this people shouldn't be as mad. It just means what we all suspected: that lynch is our Elway. This could work...but we gotta wait and see. Every GM hire is a gamble regardless.

Yep. Worst and stupidest ownership in the League. Bar None. Even Cleveland is laughing at us now. Pathetic.
Dudes, dudes. It is foosball. Okay? I mean, honestly, we got much bigger s**t to worry about in our lives. So, Lynch, an unknown, yet, on his way to HOF, is our Pseudo GM, while Gamble handles the draft. Meh. I said it, meh. Either it is awesome or it is not. Shanny the Younger is running the show THAT is what this tells me.

Now, where was I? Ah yes....

Either it works out and Jed and Marathe look like geniuses and everyone is kissing their asses or it flops and the team remains in dumpster fire status.

Personally I'm hoping it works out but only time will tell.

Nobody wanted Gamble to be the GM. Now we're cool with him possibly picking players?

I'm actually ok with this hire... it sort of makes sense.

Shanahan is a hot-shot coach but he's young and he's going to need someone with some serious respect in the league to make/enforce some of the tough decisions when things aren't going so well. Lynch is that guy and he already has a good relationship with Kyle. He also surely has some personnel chops on the defensive side of things and we already know that despite all of his other flaws, Paraag is more than capable of handling the money and the contracts.

It could all blow up in our faces... but I'm actually kind of excited about it.

Garcia has got to be kicking himself. If he just begged to be GM he'd have a job.

Young would d!ck slap JeRaag in two seconds, every day till they got it right. They know that, Young knows that and so did mommy and daddy. They would be like rats trapped in a corner mumbling some crap that demons would be spitting if they saw baby Jesus.

No way that was happening
