Yeah Mark Dominik who has been out of the NFL for 4 years. Brilliant!

Well he's certainly an experienced personnel guy. He wouldn't be focusing on full GM responsibilities, just personnel, might even do a good job.

Why not just go all in and hire Matt Millen. He has experience as well.

He has experience and failed miserably so, we know what we got there... we don't know if this guy's gonna fail, not yet

So with Mark Dominik (ex-GM) and Tom Gamble, how can't Lynch set up a draft again? And can you honestly tell me Lynch doesn't know about scouting players, inquire about trades, trade value, forming a prospect board and value, know how to conduct interviews (when he himself has been in them) or know how to properly structure a roster?

As for contracts, Paraag handles that, I'm sure he and Lynch would work together in negotiations with player contracts or did you think Baalke did that by himself?

Lynch will have a front office team to guide and advise. The main thing Lynch will be is the face of the business/media side of the 49ers not to mention one who will mesh with his head coach Kyle Shanahan.

He's not setting it up. If his jobs is to have everybody do the work, there's know point in making him the trigger man. If Dominik and Gamble are fighting for two different players that Lynch knows 0 about...how does that work out? Coin toss, arm wrestle? If his job is to pick players, right now we can probably say with certainty he is starting at the bottom with previous knowledge.

Yes I doubt he knows the in's and out's at the FO level. You know how I can say that? He's never done it or been a part of it. He has the same qualifications that Deion Sanders has. Actually Deion attends the combine and watches players so he might actually know more.

Boom. The ONLY THING people trying to defend this s**t should be saying is 'we'll have to wait and see'.

Well, no one is holding you back, go be a fan of another team.

But Lynch will not have full personnel control.

So even better with the coach getting to decide the 53 man roster.

haha.. That would be awesome and totally possible with a legit QB but I think 3 years is more reasonable

Because they hired a GM that their new HC could and wanted to work with?

You people are illogical as all f**k. At some point it helps to stop being bitter about everything and just see what happens.

It's been less then 4 hrs!! I think fans have earned the right to be bitter for just a little bit longer at least. Jed doesn't have the benefit of the doubt anymore, he's wasted those. I'll stop being bitter when we're told who the actual player personnel guy will be, who's going to run the draft and who has final say on the roster.

It's just flat out ridiculous to say that Shanahan should stay in Atlanta when this is his guy, a guy that he can work and collaborate with. The 49ers put together some semblance of symmetry between GM and HC and likely the personnel guy that will be brought in.

People can certainly question this decision is out of left field and is something that could rapidly implode but some of the comments I'm seeing are beyond idiotic.

I think pretty obvious that Bobbi was joking that Kyle would stay another year. Kyle's going to be the next coach.
I was addressing that there's nothing wrong with being bitter about the hire for a little bit. We don't all have to be homers or sheep. If anybody had of suggested Lynch to be our GM before today they wouldn't been laughed at.
It's the same as when the zone puts out those polls on who they want hired. Most vote for the one that the media says is the front runner until another candidate become the "front runner" and then the votes go up for him next. Homers.

Yes, you are reasonable as well. C'mon man, this is the Zone, reason doesn't work here

Bill Walsh himself could be resurrected and people would complain. "But he hasn't coached in so long, 49ers should have gone with Cable, this sucks."

I think its possible with the right QB and a new DC. Lynch really wont have an impact for 2-3 years from now.

Its even worse if he is the GM in name only. What was the point of hiring him, if the actually day to day responsibility will be Gambles? Just so fans wouldn't freak out? This hire has not exactly stopped that.

I don't agree at all. The point is that you get a guy who represents the organization, who can help keep things together while the coaches do their thing and the scouts do their thing. Had they had someone like Lynch with Baalke working under him maybe Harbaugh would still be around.

In many of the very best run companies, the guy at the end of the table is a guy who can put forward the vision and attract the best quality people to work around him. He may not be the best at analytics, or marketing, or know jack about how the maintenance guys get it all done but he brings in good people to do all that. One of the central criteria those people use is whether or not the person is a likable person that works well with others. There are a lot of people who "can do the job," but not everyone who can do the job is someone that gets along well with others.

If Lynch can just be that guy that attracts talent that wants to work with him, this franchise will have made the jump to light speed from where it has been the past couple of years.
