Or are you under the assumption that they will tank the season believing that Cousins won't be available? In which case I assure you that isn't going to happen. Shanahan isn't going to f**k himself over in future years by putting in players that will harm team cohesiveness and screw up full install of offensive and defensive schemes all for a possible chance at a prospect that has less than a 50% shot of being anything worthwhile.
I think Shanahan is going to approach it with the same mindset as guys like his dad and Holmgren. "Getting a QB in the 1st is nice but I can find a guy later on too." He'll throw his cards down on the table and try to win as many games as possible.
If that puts them out of range of some QB prospects, so be it. With Lynch and Shanahan so focused on building a winning culture, I don't see either embracing a loser mentality, even if the genetically engineered lovechild of Joe Montana and San Marino happens to be in the draft.
Ugh, what I've been saying is seemly getting blown out of proportion. I'm basically piggybacking off what kyle stated the other day "You never want to compete in one year at the expense of your future"
Imo this upcoming season is somewhat of a throwaway season...we're installing a whole new FO and coaching staff, along with revamping the squad which is full of very very young players. What I've been saying is I'm gonna be more than happy if we double our win total from next yr, look competitive, along with improving our ranks on defense/offense (which shouldn't be hard). IMHO winning 7-8 games doesn't really do much and doesn't help us in our chances of possibley obtaining the player we might NEED.
I'd rather play more of the younger guys, mainly CJ at some pt vs hoyer to see if there's anything there. IF we lose who cares, it helps us obtain the highest pick possible which helps kyle get whomever he wants...if we get Kirk, that's even better. We can hold that top end pick for ransom and get a hefty trade which in turn could help this team in the long-term (example the titans).
I'm just looking long-term...I don't want some 9 win season with hoyer which imo isn't who we will be for the future, perfect example is the Jets with Fitz in 2015.
