year 3, this FO has got to be aggressive in getting the ball rolling. specifically FA. get off to a fast start and hope to have a productive draft. Rams are #1 Seahawks are still a threat and the Cardinals will get better. we have tons of cap space. let's validate the huge ass contract we gave Jimmy G now

They may be active in FA, but I don't know that they are possessed right now with a great spirit of urgency. Everything I have read points to long term building and long term planning. Excuses? I haven't heard any excuses. They appear to accept the circumstances and are working within them. They have six year contracts and I doubt that they feel under specific pressure at the beginning of year three.

I think it's fair to have higher expectations for year 3 in terms of seeing improvement record-wise. Even if we don't make the playoffs this year, we need to at least be near or in the hunt IMO. I've defended Shanny HARD the past 2 years. if we can stay relatively healthy then it's time to step up.

also given the fact the Rams made it to the SB, and the rest of the division, the 49ers should have plenty of urgency. everyone else around us is getting better so I don't know that I agree with that assessment about not exactly being possessed with any urgency. but we're just fans. we don't have a f**king clue in reality lol

What do you think is the biggest key to Kyles offense, a consistent RB or WR?

I agree with both of you. I do not believe they have much of a sense of urgency but they will make one big splash. The rest of the moves will probably be in mid-tier volume.

As to DX, for sure. This is year 3 and the NFC is very competitive. The team you swapped picks with at #2 is already in the playoffs with a year 2 QB playing in a brand new offensive system. Vikings, Pack, Hawks, Rams, Saints, Eagles, Cowboys, etc.

There's no excuse not to add FA talent. These are players you'll sign right up THROUGH your 6 year contracts...when JG's contract ends (ShanaLynch too). They'll help you now and for the next 4 years.

Their work is perfectly cut out for them. Add talent. Upgrade. Set yourself up for the draft. And give your FQB the best chance to find success.

yeah, it's really more about teams around us getting better and proving it rather than where we're at in our nice comfortable '6-year rebuild' window.

Totally. Our own players have been doing everything possible to attract talent. They just want to win and win now. I felt Shanahan made a big mistake at his final presser saying they aren't going to change strategy or feel pressure because it's year 3 of the rebuild. To a guy like Staley, that would royally piss me off.

Any quality FA is going to cost north of his own $10.9M salary. Do you think he cares one bit?

I want to believe that's just cookie-cutter coach speak... Just because there is not a lot of pressure from Jed atm, doesn't mean there shouldn't be any pressure at all. Competition around them should be enough to justify any sense of urgency. so I'm buying into the fact this is a make or break year.

If we don't hit at least .500 this year, he is in the hot seat. That is a low bar for year three too.

you and I have always disagreed over shanny too. i think most people like myself and cc and you (not sus) should be able to agree with that for this year. doesn't matter if we have 6-years to rebuild this thing, not like the rest of the league is going to just sit and wait

So you're saying that Brian Hoyer is the real Super Bowl MVP?

That's basically what the article said. The defense credited him with the overall domination of the rams offense.

Interesting read, especially this quote..

"Having played in that offense, they don't have an answer for all-out pressure," Hoyer told Breer. "Their answer is for the quarterback to make a play."

This is painfully obvious when watching the 49ers. Beathard and Mullens both get destroyed under pressure and you can see Jimmy G has to improvise.

Looks like Shannys offense has been exposed.

Reminds me of the Rams under Martz.
