Interesting read, especially this quote..
"Having played in that offense, they don't have an answer for all-out pressure," Hoyer told Breer. "Their answer is for the quarterback to make a play."
This is painfully obvious when watching the 49ers. Beathard and Mullens both get destroyed under pressure and you can see Jimmy G has to improvise.
Looks like Shannys offense has been exposed.

That's basically what the article said. The defense credited him with the overall domination of the rams offense.

Originally posted by genus49:1. That is not what the article said. Hoyer provided valuable intel based on his knowledge of Shanahan's offense and similarities to McVay's scheme with the Rams including some stuff they put on tape/media coverage. The Pats coaches then used that to develop their game plan. It's not that somehow the Pats knew every playcall it's that they saw the tendencies and realized certain situations can give them a competitive advantage if called at the right time.
2. Shanhan's offense isn't exposed. If all out pressure was all it took to beat his system he wouldn't be coaching in the NFL. All out pressure for the most part isn't something teams want to see and pretty much across the board it's up to the QB to find the open guy or get rid of the ball. Nothing new. Goff simply didn't make the play and the Pats played it perfectly.

I quoted the article directly
Hoyer basically said Shanny offense doesnt have an answer for all out pressure. "There answer is for the QB to make a play"
None of you guys happened to notice the 49ers getting destroyed by pressure all year??

You didnt know McVay coached under Shanny and uses his system?? Hence Hoyer having extensive knowledge of the system.
Now that the Patriots have exposed there is no answer for all out pressure expect to see the house brought every game next year.

McVay runs a more predictable version of Shanahan's offense. The Rams run nearly everything out of 11 personnel with little variation.
The Rams biggest problem is that Goff consistently folds under pressure. He was one of the worst passers in football when he didn't have a clean pocket.

Originally posted by Heroism:There's also a lot of nuanced differences between the two. Shanny is heavily influenced by his father and Alex Gibbs, while McVay is heavily influenced by Jon Gruden and Bill Callahan.
People see outside zone as the basis of their offenses, but they run them differently with various contrasting coaching points, reads and what not. Shanny runs wide zone, which emanates from Alex Gibbs; McVay, on the other hand, runs mid zone, which is similar but with different. Paul Alexander, former Bengals/Cowboys OL coach, held a greatly informative seminar on this particular topic.
