Shannahan is soooo much better then Mcvey
Is there a reason one has to be sooo much better then the other?
Yes because you see how McVay loses. It is when the opponent stuff their run game that has no fullback. Kyle's run game hardly gets stuffed which means the success SEA had vs McVay won't translate to Kyle's offense.
Sort of a relief.
It is also a tortious v a hare thing.
Shanahan has been going about building this team slowly and methodically. He hasn't been showing his hand in the past two seasons. Just keeping the scheming simple until he has all of the right talent in place. Strategically this has been brilliant.
Now he has a full deck he is playing his cards. The plays are far more complex this year and have opposition defences chasing their tails. The defense is there to back it up.
His biggest issue will be managing injuries and so far he is doing a good job of this.
Mcvey on the other hand has all his eggs in one basket with a couple of key players doing all of the heavy lifting. Now they, especially Gurley are off the boil, the Rams are not firing as well as they did last year. The depth is not there.
The game against the Cawks yesterday they did not play badly and only lost because of a missed field goal right at the end. But they were not as sharp as they were last year. They were just falling short. Mcvey should have been on top of this and had his pencil sharp. But it has been blunted. In my view the slump in form is on Mcvey and his lack of foresight. Shanahan is more forward thinking.
All good observations, but Rams are the lesser this yr because they don't have Donald AND Suh. That was the BEST interior twosome in the league. And without Suh, Rams D can be beaten. On O, Gurley was healthy back then, He is a totally different, and lesser player, obviously, since his injury.
Last yr our 5 OLs played together all yr. This yr even with Joe out another 4 weeks, we are way better off than the Rams OL which lost both C and OG. Sounds small but that is another huge advantage.
McVay walked into a stacked team but got rattled and lost to bellichek. Should say Goff got rattled .. but BB had mcvay's number. They are a really good team this yr but have just lost their 2nd game in 4 tries. Different team. Also, with Wade Phillips, Mcvay had a top flite DC , ready made and ready to go.
Now , in his 3rd season, Saleh , a completely green DC has some superb DL and DB coaches not to mention the addition of Dee, Nick, Kwon, plus K'uan currently rated by PFF as the best slot corner thru 3 games. Also our DBs are way better than last yr.
Days of Rams just rolling into town and marking up a W are over. Now...they will have to earn it.
And , Mcvay is a good OC. But kyle is a lot better.
First....Cleve ., one game at a time.
McVay came into a situation where the talent has nowhere to go but down. Unless he replaces that talent, the Rams only getting worse each year. Kyle started at bottom level talent and can only go up. The kicker is McVay will drop from an elite record to a playoff sustainable record and Kyle the same but from the other end of the spectrum, from a crap record to a playoff sustaining record (JG success pending).
The true test will be if either will be able to get to (SF) or get back to (LAR) that elite level in 2020 years.
