Most of our games this year haven't really been close besides a maybe the steelers. The bengals had some lucky plays that made it look closer.

I wouldnt call that bengals game close or closer at all, they scored that john ross td in absolute garbage time when we had our back ups in. that was a beat down from the get go

Yeah I wouldn't call it close either. I'm just saying it looked closer
Than it was on the score card because of their garbage time scoring

Even at 0-9 it was evident that Kyle Shanahan was the man. It's the best example I can think of where it is foolish to judge a head coach by their record alone and also a prime example of how context matters. Not everyone is as good as Shanny is, so them being 0-9 or what-have-you may truly be indicative that they actually suck. If Shanny is 0-9 he must have the worst roster in the NFL. He did. That he had his team in position to win 5 of those games with Bryan Hoyer and Beathard as his QB is a miracle in and of itself.

Kyle Shanahan started this season at 10-22, he is now 17-22. There's a real good possibility that he ends the regular season with a 24-24 record and he has outside shot at breaking the .500 mark. Not that I need that to justify anything, but it would be cool considering where we've come from.

I don't want to imagine where we would be had we impulsively jumped ship from Kyle.

I'm not the biggest fan of Jed York but def glad he sacked up and gave Lynch and Kyle the contracts he did and stepped out of the way. He has made a ton of mistakes over his course of ownership but it seems like he has learned from it and is trying to improve

I was 11 during the 1990 season and its really the first season that I felt somewhat comfortable remembering the games. I've also retrospectively went back and have watched probably 10 games from that year. It was kinda weird how the season played out. First 5 games of the season the offense couldn't really run the ball (didn't even average 70 yards per game) but was really explosive in the passing game (330+ ypg). These trends didn't stay that way though as the ground game got better and the passing game only have 1 more game of over 300 (was actually a 400 yard game).

Sadly 1990 didn't end how we all wanted it to and it really was the end for many of the stalwart Walsh era players (Ronnie, Keena, Roger). Basically during the season, the 1990 team had the look of a somewhat aging team that knew it was on the cusp of history. They got everyone's top shot and it still didn't matter. Of the 3 year run (88-90) 1990 had probably the best defense of the group but it also probably had the worst offense of the 3 teams. I still have a ton of fun remember the 1990 season and rewatching some of the games. Do yourself a favor and youtube the 1990 SF vs Hou game. Its a great snapshot of the classic WCO vs the run and shoot. It's a fun watch.

We got so lucky to have him here. In three short years, you have heard these kinds of stories about Shanahan from our own players, but the one Burleson told at the end there shows you just how long Shanahan has been this good.

Insane how Kyle puts defenders in a blender. Spun around, all twisted out of sorts trying to keep up with the 49ers run game. Good luck practicing for all these looks. Opposing scout teams have to basically learn a new offense just to give their own defense similar looks in practice.
Best way to defend Kyle's offense in order of importance:

1. Hope all the RBs get hurt.
2. Cover 2 and have the 4 DL shoot the gap straight into the backfield to blow up any cutbacks.
3. Have Willis and Bowman at LB.

5. Pay off the refs to make fake offensive holding calls.

its absolutely insane how both Washington and Cleveland didn't realize what they had with him. I remember back, idk if it was before the Tomsula or Chip hiring, some zoners here were calling for the hiring of Kyle but many said he was too young and not ready. Not saying he was ready back then, but man, crazy how we actually ended up landing him.

I think we should have fired him after his second game like some on here wanted to.....It was obvious that he was not HC material. "Glorified OC"

Seriously though, I think how he never lost the team despite consecutive starts of 0-9 and 1-8 was very impressive. That showed me that he was in full control of that locker room. Never questioned the X's and O's standpoint and that proved to me he was a leader of men.

This was the sole reason why Mike Shanahan was my number 1 choice both in '15 and '16.

A coach with weak leadership ability no doubt loses the locker room after 0-9, 1-8 starts. The players knew that Kyle knew what he was doing and their faith in him is paying off.
