Not saying he was ready back then, but man, crazy how we actually ended up landing him.
Those two franchises make insane their normal.
Feels good to be a 49er fan.

Seriously though, I think how he never lost the team despite consecutive starts of 0-9 and 1-8 was very impressive. That showed me that he was in full control of that locker room. Never questioned the X's and O's standpoint and that proved to me he was a leader of men.
A coach with weak leadership ability no doubt loses the locker room after 0-9, 1-8 starts. The players knew that Kyle knew what he was doing and their faith in him is paying off.
During those first 2 seasons, did Kyle ever have a player giving any hint of frustration like we are seeing from Mayfield... I don't remember at anytime. It was always, 'We didn't win. We will work hard to get better for the next game. ' Sounds cliche at times, but the attitude was never remotely boiling frustration. They seemed to absolutely know where they are going and how to get there, because of Kyle.

Yeah I don't remember anyone. Other than the obvious guys who got the boot (Trent Brown, Eric Reid, and Bowman), I can't remember anyone ever even hinting that they didn't believe in the coaches.
I remember before we hired Shanahan, the following article coming out. Man, those are huge shoes to fill, but even to make the comparison is a great sign.

Best way to defend Kyle's offense in order of importance:
1. Hope all the RBs get hurt.
2. Cover 2 and have the 4 DL shoot the gap straight into the backfield to blow up any cutbacks.
3. Have Willis and Bowman at LB.
5. Pay off the refs to make fake offensive holding calls.
6. Hoping the Niners offense will turn the ball over 3+ times.
7. Focus on defending against explosive plays, and make the Niners to rely on the unreliable Gould to score points.

I think getting Kyle after the Falcons' Super Bowl loss will pay dividends for us, which obviously wouldn't have been part of his experience if we could have somehow hired him in 2015. A little knowledge about how far to push his offensive philosophy before it hurts the team, and about how having a mediocre defense can screw you over, could go a long way here.
It's also important to note that he would have been below Baalke in power in the 2015 front office, and I don't see that ending well for SF or Kyle. We probably have to fire Kyle and Baalke after 2016 because that front office structure would not have built a winning culture over two seasons post Harbaugh, and things would not be pleasant in 49er land. We would just be another on the list of franchises that let Kyle get away as he won with, say, the Rams or Jaguars.

Three tough but necessary moves to make. Props to Lynch and Shanny.

A key staple of the Kyle Shanahan offense is motion. See how he sets up motion throughout a game in order to lull you into a big play.

"The highest motion rate in the league by over 8%, at 70.5%"https://t.co/vcgznetdLNpic.twitter.com/4bthis4e6h

Yes, but what were the caveats that kyle insisted on?
Full control over EVERYTHING football, except Paraag's contracts .Jed was wise enough to get out of the way , like his uncle wisely did when GOAT Walsh came in. But kyle wanted control over everything.
So he never would have come here if baalke were here. never. He had been asst coach or OC for over 10 yrs now, and has seen all the ways owners, GMs, asst coaches, DCs, OCs, scouting, can screw up ....and he and his bud , John L, wanted to be in control of everything having to do with football ops.
That is the only way kyle was going anywhere. The fact that he was brot up living football, and was our ball boy during some of the glory days when his dad was the OC...i wonder if that was in part why he agreed to take on the mess that was the 49ers?
Probably. But by that time, he was ready to be HC, and he didn't want someone else screwing up what he did. Jed agreed and we were on.
