So if we ran it on 4th and 1 and don't get the first down, what exactly are you guys blaming the loss on then?

No guarantees a run play works there. Baltimore just made a good defensive play there, simple as that.

If you run it and don't get the first, then the true blame goes back to this first half lack of urgency and Gould missing the field goal.

No matter what, people will find something to blame.

That's kinda how it works, right?

There are reasons teams win and reasons they lose. Those are to blame for why they lost.

Shanny and Gould are to blame here:

Gould: obvious. he better not be playing next week.

Shanny:

1. Farting around the end of the first half with a minute and timeouts, until the Mostert run changes his mind that he should go for points (ya think?!). They coulda gotten closer for Gould.

2. Blowing timeouts in the second half. Inexcusable. Ultimately didn't matter but poor poor game management.

3. You put an inaccurate QB, in the rain, in shotgun, four yards behind the line of scrimmage on 4th and 1, while Raheem Mostert is getting at least 5 yards a clip. Horrible play call. A QB sneak, sweep to the edge; even a play action rollout...ANYTHING would have been better. Even if you don't get it you could see the logic. The game was over once he made that idiotic move.

Hard fought but really brutal loss. This team seemingly can't compete with the real big boys and grab the win when it's there for the taking.

The FG was apparently tipped by Marlon Humphrey.

How dare you discuss the loss on an appropriate discussion board!

In that case I blame Kwon for being injured.

Don't care. This isn't the only reason Gould is under fire. He's statistically one of--if not, the worst--kicker in the league right now. It's hurting the team. Get him off the field.

Execution.

Yup, and O Line would should have fired out and brought those DLine hands down - that would have helped.

I'm talking about what happens in the game. Let's not play semantics. It's fine to be critical and identify why the team lost. They played tough. It's a better season than anyone expected. I'm simply discussing why I felt they lost.
Kyle not making high percentage calls is costing the team games.

Coach is going to cost us a playoff game at some point with his poor clock management and questionable play calling. Same things that lost him a superbowl as an oc

But he isn't to blame for the missed FG if they got a hand on the ball. And we already saw how Chase fared under pressure once, no guarantees he can out kick Robbie thru years end.

I can't put too much blame on Kyle. He's a tremendous coach...his QB handicaps what he can do.

The dudes a system guy though.

It's more of a 50 50 blame in my opinion. Shannyn doesn't know how to play to his players strengths. He's a systems guy so the players have to fit his system.

Garapollo has struggled to fully grasp the system but shanny has also handicapped him into the system as well.

This is why Jimmy looked great his first 5 games while playing on instinct and has seemed to regress since then as he grapples with shannys dictionary long playbook.

We've lost 2 games outta 12 and blown out a bunch of teams. Seems like his playcalling has been more good than bad.
The 2 Costly Mistakes in This Game:

...............#1) Garoppolo (we can expect 1-2 a game of these) fumbling at an inopportune time we NEED him to hold onto the wet ball.

Result: -7

...............#2) Shanahan for at least the 2nd time the last several weeks has PISS-POOR clock management as halves ends.
In particular the 2nd Quarter,....where we had all the time in the world yet bled it away,...ending up with 2 timeouts right around
Robbie's limit and a 1st down that we cant really make anything out of for a better kick or a TD.

Result -3 to -7

What's also interesting is it was the same exact strategy while we were tied in the 4th quarter, as the analyst pointed out. Bleed as much clock as possible.....EVEN WITH NO LEAD. To me,...that's playing scared and showing your team a mix of just not trusting your offense (and defense enough to stop Lamar) to win this game. Essentially,...get the halves over with ASAP and cross your fingers at the end!

Guys,...everything else you wanna talk about or make out of this game is your own choice, but the above 10/14 point differential are issues that keep us from being the #1 team in the NFL.

A) Garoppolo's gonna Garoppolo,...which is a good thing as he played good in this game,...BUT in close games, his usual pick or fumble on our side of the field in inopportune moments that are easily converted to points prove costly. If you have some sloppiness in you,...you need to have it on the opponent's side of the 40 yard line.

B) Kyle,...getting to know him better and better as well. Undoubtedly an excellent game planner when it comes to play designs, et. al. But game and time management is a huge, costly question mark once again this week.

Great game by both teams,...but A and B need to improve for a legit Superbowl Run.

How can you not care? And to say this team can't compete with the big boys is ridiculous.
We will be just fine next week against the Saints in a huge conference game! Keep doing what you do Coach Shanahan
