That 2011 team was miles better than the 2017 version. It was in its 5th year of building with 5 drafts. It was only piss poor coaching that had that team peaking at 8-8 and usually hovering in that 6-10 to 7-9 range. Credit goes to Harbaugh for doing what he did but that was a talent stacked roster and I'm sure that's the reason he picked it over Mia in the end. This 2017 team is essentially an expansion team and is more a kin to the '79 squad then the '11 team.
Nobody was saying how talented that roster was when Singletary took it to 6-10. You need talent to win in this league, but talent does not guarantee winning, so it's silly to imply that any coach could have come in and taken that roster to the same record that Harbaugh did.
Our current roster most closely resembles the 2005 roster than Nolan inherited and had to build back up.
The talent that Harbaugh had sucked until Harbaugh got a hold of them. The guy does it everywhere he goes!
This teams roster is better than the one JH inherited in my opinion. JH wasn't able to pick his QB, or his WR coming in. No one on the team knew his schemes and they had a lockout that year. He came into a situation where he had a very good RB & MLB, and that was it! He coached these guys into All Pros, and made them believe they were winners!
Shanahan just needs to figure out his structure, JH had his hand in everything not just the offense. I think KS will develop into a fine head coach but it's going to take some time. Trying to get out of his daddy's shadow man not be a good thing at this point, he may need to shadow up until he figures it out. I'm still on the KS wagon though...
