Seemed frustrated and overwhelmed. Now that McVey looks like a young coach thats got his team headed in the right direction.

By your estimation, Walsh would never win a game either based on his 0-3 (eventually 0-9) start in 1979.
It's a prediction based on some strong indications of coaching style and approach.
Just because Bill Walsh struggled to win in his first season does not mean that every coach that struggles in his first season will have Bill Walsh's success....
You are counting your chickens before the eggs hatch.
And your prediction is based on nothing but pure guess work.
Our team looks sloppy, and we did some odd playcalls. Hopefully KS improves...

This teams roster is better than the one JH inherited in my opinion. JH wasn't able to pick his QB, or his WR coming in. No one on the team knew his schemes and they had a lockout that year. He came into a situation where he had a very good RB & MLB, and that was it! He coached these guys into All Pros, and made them believe they were winners!
Shanahan just needs to figure out his structure, JH had his hand in everything not just the offense. I think KS will develop into a fine head coach but it's going to take some time. Trying to get out of his daddy's shadow man not be a good thing at this point, he may need to shadow up until he figures it out. I'm still on the KS wagon though...
Not even close.....even piss poor coached that 2010 squad was 6-10. This is a 2 win team that gutted even further. What do you mean he didn't get to pick his QB? They spent a 2nd rounder on one.

JH took over the team from the year before while KS was able to reshape the roster. KS has a better Qb and better wr's. JH is just a animal when it comes to coaching, straight up he will grind you until you do it his way!

Ok....Brian Hoyer is not better than Alex Smith. I'll give you WR, but '11 had a better QB, HB, TE and OL and that's not even debatable.
Originally posted by glorydayz:by the end of the season you can say that, coming in they were not held in high regard.
Alex Smith was still getting booed at home!

LOL. Those bashing Shanahan need to pull their heads out of their asses. No one is above criticism, but any hiccups are to be expected and should not be so surprising. Yet people are somehow foolish enough to expect greatness right of the gate or foolish enough to be surprised that that greatness is not happening. This was never going to be a quick turnaround. It could be if everything goes perfectly. But clearly that hasn't happened. Shanahan cannot control if his players are inept or not, those players must perform. We have Hoyer unable to be consistent with his throws and when they are good throws we have receivers who drop those passes. The defense is undermanned, if a healthy Foster is out there last night we are talking about a win today.
Any comparison to McVay in L.A. is inapplicable because McVay walked into a roster that was loaded by comparison to what Shanahan has here. Years of great draft slotting and smart picks with those slots have put the Rams in a great position roster wise that the 49ers couldn't compare to because of bad draft slotting and even worse drafting on the part of the former regime under Baalke. McVay's experience is actually similar to Harbaugh in that they both walked into good roster situations and Shanahan did not. In spite of the roster situation Shanahan is doing great as he learns on the job.
