We used a lot of different formations and play designs under Harbaugh. We didn't make it predominant until the playoffs, so that wasn't why he had initial success.
There were a certain few games it was "predominant". During the 2012 playoffs I would say it was, but outside of that it wasn't full on RO all the time. It was about as "predominant" as Sea, KC, Car, and Buff currently. The RO is still here amongst mobile QBs, but cognitive dissonance makes "old school" guy's literally tell themselves it's not.
It doesn't matter what designs you grab from HaRomans hodge podge playbook...the context from which Kaepernick could operate it was one-read-then-run. At best, he was a very very slow progression reader unlike the players you highlighted adove who all worked hard on their pocket craft. The RO today is just a wrinkle but by a read option design or scramble, Kaepernick was ultra successful with his legs and that was our offense (read-run) until defenses caught up to it.
