49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

Head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked after the game if it would take more time for the offense to figure everything out.

"I think that could have happened today," head coach Kyle Shanahan said. "I don't get too caught up in it. We had 400 yards of offense. We were two for five in the red zone. I think we get a lot more points if we could score touchdowns on those plays instead of field goals. I didn't feel like it wasn't that we couldn't move the ball or do stuff like that. I felt like guys made a lot of plays. I don't know how many we averaged a play, but I know we were moving it. We were the better offense today. We've just got to score more touchdowns."

This area has been the biggest drop off from when Mike McDaniel was here. I'm not implying he was the sole mastermind here but together WITH Kyle, this and their 4 minute offense were tops last year. Clutch.

We have WAY too many weapons to be just pounding it up inside and losing yards. Teams are getting far more with far less here.

My point is that there comes a time when a team is struggling and loosening things up a bit allows them to just play instead of think and good things happen.

Yes, putting Ryan back in was the correct move and it also contributes to a looser environment where the veteran QB instills confidence the struggling rookie could not.

LV is not a bad team. They just have a bad HC that is now failing again. McDaniel has lost that team and I couldn't be more pleased. I feel bad for Carr because he will likely be the scapegoat. He is a better player than he has shown this season but it is what it is.

LV has injuries all over the place and that D has been poor for a while. I do agree I think Carr is better but overall they just haven't been good for a while regardless of who the HC has been.

also I get what you're saying with playing free. I just don't think that's a problem here at all.
Maybe not, however, there is something lacking and the lack of execution often comes from thinking instead of playing.
Can you imagine the screaming in here following a 13-10 win by the 49ers under Bill Walsh?

OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!!

Walsh won super bowls and It's a different era now.

QBs and offenses are known for putting up yards/points with ease these days.

At least we got the "W". That's all that matters at this point.

Not this year. Scoring is way down, and most offenses look anything but smooth.

Yeah. It's been an odd season this year.

He won Super Bowls plural by year 6 and he drafted Montana before he coached a game.

In before the 'he didn't draft Montana his staff did' remarks.. fine.. but he has a say over his staff also developed the guy in his system / offense

He had this choice at the end of the game:

- Attempt a TD to seal it away. If they turn it over on downs, the Chargers have it at the 2 with 1:00 left. They need to go 60 yards to get to the 49er 38 to attempt a 56 yard field goal to tie the game.

- Kick the FG, a higher % play for points than the TD, and expect the kickoff to not get beyond the 25. That means they need to go 75 yards to get a TD. (They ended up starting on the 23, needing 77 yards).

He chose the situation that was more likely to require the Chargers to go for a longer drive.

The key to better redzone scoring is not to be always going for it on 4th down; the key is to get TDs on 1st-2nd-3rd downs.

He's adding substance to the crying in here.
I'm not a fan of running out fragile rb's and qb all the time up the middle. Throw in a few edge runs from time to time. Let Jimmy throw deep 3 times a game. Even if we don't convert.

im starting to see mike McDaniel was the true creative genious

People said the same thing when Seifert replaced Bill Walsh.
