I honestly don't understand why anyone would have a bone to pick with Shanahan at this point unless they had someone how deluded themselves into thinking that this was going to be some sort of magical turnaround year and that he was going to somehow catapult a team with a new system on both offense and defense with a lot of rookies, UDFA's, first and second year players, and few vets into contention for the NFC West title. It is clearly evident just from watching the games that the team is better than it has been for the past couple of years if people in here can't see that well then they're just not paying attention or don't know what they're talking about, which is always the most likely scenario.
The penalties are a drag but I don't lay that entirely at the feet of the coaching staff. You can try and teach technique and discipline but at the end of the day it is up to the players to execute you can't be standing out there whispering in their ear while their playing. By all accounts Shanahan's offense is a pretty complex one that even took an established vet like Matt Ryan a couple of years to master so that it might take a team that is pretty young a while to get everything together shouldn't come as any surprise. They spent that last several years drafting players to fit a 3-4 scheme on defense now they have switched it up to a 4-3 and some of these guys just aren't going to be suited to that style so they are going to need to get that sorted out, which again is going to take some time. So all of the b***hing and handwringing going on in here is really hard to fathom. All I can think of is that there are a lot of people in here who wanted a different coach hired or a different player drafted and so are just venting because things didn't go the way they wanted them to, which is a common problem with this forum. "Oh, I know better than the coaches and if the team would just listen to me and do what I want them to do they'd be so much better off". "if they had only drafted _______ (fill in the blank) or hired _________ (fill in the blank) we'd be 5-0 and headed to the Super Bowl".
I sought this forum out because I thought it would be fun to talk about a team that I have followed since I was a teenager but I have to confess that there are only about 20-30 people who post in here on a regular basis that seem to have the slightest idea what they are talking about and don't get hung up on seem weird post or obsession that they keep hammering and hammering and hammering. I think I can honestly say that the only real issue I have had with the team over the past few years was their Super Bowl loss, which ruined their perfect record, and for that I blame Jim Harbaugh and Colin Kaepernick, in that order. The dumpster fire that the team has been since then can probably be laid at Trent Baalke's feet but he's gone now and a new era has begun, hopefully one that will see us competing at a high level once again. But at the end of the day it is only a stupid game and hardly worth all of the drama that some people seem to invest in it. That being said, Go Niners!!
Definitely, we should have ran the ball 3 straight times. A QB draw would have been a good option even.
Throwing it to Crabs on consecutive fade routes? Pfffttt... How many times did they even attempt that during the season? I dont remember any to speak of.

on first and goal from the 7 after gore busted the big run.... even dumb little james got two yards vs a d set up to stop the run.. so fine second and goal from the 5, you have a well rested gore dixon and ck. and at the time we had the best run block line in the nfl but no. roman went cute. jh enabled him and i think there was a time out we took which screwed us as well.

I too am a long time fan; saw a game at Kezar. I have confidence in KS and Lynch; they are football people. What concerns me is that this organization may have decision makers who are Silicone Valley types with their analytics and computers who are not football people.Thinking that glorified code writers have some secret formula that will help win football games is nonsense. Success in the tech industry is far more dependent on luck than success in the NFL which I believe is achieved best by people who played and know the game. I do not want to see the current coach undermined the way Harbaugh likely was by non-football people in that organization. It is likely that because of his age Jed York buys into the tech is best view and it is really hard to get anyone from any field to see the limitations of that perspective after they have seen the money made by it (by just a few).

We're last in Time of Possession in the league at 26:45 per game. Just to compare to 2016 and Chips Offense it was at 26:47 per game.
