Both Burrow and Hurts throw nearly every down.

And that has what to do with them absorbing a ton of sacks throughout the season? Does being hit hurt less when you throw more? They're still getting hit a lot.

You can look at the QB injuries and most were freak occurrences. Lance having his ankle rolled up on, Garoppolo fighting for more yards and getting his foot trapped, Purdy getting hit at exactly the worst spot possible while releasing the football.

This isn't David Carr or Tim Couch getting battered behind terrible OLs. This team has just had a run of s**t luck when it comes to quarterbacks.

LOL do QBs getting hurt under Kyle Shanahan in SF happen yearly?

I don't think we can put It down to bad luck when It continues to happen every year.

Protect the QB at all cost.

Yeah, common sense to protect the most important player on the team. Assuming (big assumption here) Purdy is OK, Kyle has got to keep developing the offense and defensive line. Specially the right side of the offensive line. If Brock is not OK, looks like maybe pick another QB in the 7th round.

The pass blocking ranked among tops in the league this year. Given this,....why would there be an assumption that it wasn't a priority or emphasis to protect the passer?

When there are 5 guys across the board blocking,...you are always looking @ more bodies and trying to develop, though. So it is a given that we'll be looking to improve along the OL because we always are.

TBF, Phoenix was just talking about needing to beef up the OL this off season esp. if Brock is the dude. I think he just thinks the 75 injuries we've had in 6 years to the QB's are random bad luck.

Bill Walsh wouldn't have blocked the opposing teams best rusher with a TE

I just hate the fact that he never learns. The next drive with Josh Johnson we ran basically the same play but had Jennings assigned to block both Reddick and another guy.

Guess what happened on that play. Reddick basically got left unblocked and absolutely smashed Johnson for a 10 yard sack.

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results...

True true. I have no idea what the plan was here but it's pretty much the worst plan ever.

Kyle being too overconfident In his own ability, maybe? I honestly don't understand what he was trying to accomplish by expecting a crappy backup TE block Reddick.

Oh well, we'll be back again next season.

The ironic part about this as dumb as it was is if your going to do that why not have dwelly come across and pull and flatten the dude like he did to Aaron Donald. Why you put a no name in there to get owned.

Well one way to preserve a QBs health is stop calling QB power. Second, assuming the TE blocking the opposing teams best pass rusher, got to eliminate those - unless they have established a credible run game. Brock was play passing from the git go without some 49er RB gashing the eagles on the ground.

I wouldn't have called a play pass unless you have had some success on the ground. Hindsight is 20/20 but what they can do forward from here is reevaluate the scheme, assignments, philosophy and see if they can shave off a percentage off those injuries and sacks. They have already gone with bigger OLine and RBs. Not saying Trey vs Brock, no, rather infuse that right side of that line with more talent and deeper depth. Maybe use a backup OLineman instead of a TE to block their best pass rusher.

I hate history right now

Im telling ya Levis is on ancient Indian burial grounds or something!

I seem to remember hearing after Levi's was built a construction worker who also was a Raider fan buried a Raider shirt or jersey at the 50 yard line to " curse" the stadium. I say let's dig the damn thing up and perform a seance with a witch doctor😉

Well, first, curses aren't real.

Second, Shanahan is 4-0 at Levi's in the playoffs.

That is the question.

I'm sure Kyle regrets that now but it is too late for regrets. The Eagles came in with a well-earned reputation for getting after the passer. So, game plan extra protection for the QB. Cincy didn't win tonight but they did change the protection after the first quarter and it made a big difference. Except for a dumb penalty, they could have won.
Was Kyle the O/C in Washington when RGIII got hurt?

This. All these young guys in here would have wanted Walsh fired when he lost in 85, 86, and 87 in the playoffs and when Montana got knocked out of the game. LOL

Walsh nearly did get fired. Eddie D. nearly pulled the plug after the 87 playoff loss. Walsh was coaching on thin ice in 88. When the team stumbled out to a 6-5 start, the media calls for Walsh's ouster only grew louder.

He never drastically changes the game plan is the problem.

The purdy thing is no different than if CMC got hurt running up the gut on either of the runs right before. We'd say the same thing. "Well what did you expect he's brittle and you pounded him until he got hurt"

It's like how both in the eagles and cowboys game he decided to open in the first series with long developing plays against good pass rush. You can't run play action or deep crosses on teams with good pass rush.

You have to throw to the seam and get the ball out quick.

Look what happened when Josh Johnson came in. Immediately goes spread and thinks he can just execute the offense as designed when the guys way less mobile than purdy and throws wounded ducks.

It should have been zone left run, zone right, short toss, jet sweep, checkdowns, pull left pull right. Bring in mason and switch off with CMC and mix it up. Not even let the guy throw more than 5 yards. There's 100 different high percentage plays and runs that don't involve Josh Johnson having to drop back to pass.

He just thinks his scheme is so good he never has to change it instead of fitting it to players strengths and the opponents weaknesses.

The most infuriating part is he's just going to keep doing it. In 6 years he still running the same stuff he did 6 years ago. Calling the same dumb timeouts and acting like there's no difference in game plan per opponent.
Hopefully the big take away from this year for Kyle is, Protect your QB.

Its not just bad luck with the injuries!

He took one hit. He's been hit in every game he's played. You're never getting flawless pass protection my friend.
