The O line can use an upgrade. I don't agree with some that say the Niners have ignored it. They got Williams and they used high draft picks for McGlinchey and Banks. Banks played pretty well last year and hopefully will be even better next season. McGlinchey is another issue. He's pretty good at run blocking but very poor against quick pass rushers. They need an upgrade there. Same for center. Brendel was a stopgap but he doesn't look like a center that can anchor the line. Right now one side of the line is weak and can be exploited.

No question. They had the DL Lynch was jealous over. And the OL Kyle isn't interested in obtaining.
This would've been a solid post if it was true.
Traded for the best tackle in football. Spent a first round pick on a RT. Spent a 2nd round picks on a G. Spent a 4th(?) on another G. I guess center could have been better, But here's NC again thinking we could just have All pros at every position on the OL.
I'll take 3. Like they have. Just better draft and development. Supplement in FA and trade if needed. Just get there. Maybe the 7th off season we'll get there.

Yup, but with no picks until 3rd rd comps, and McG being the best RT in FA…it is going to be a real trick to get notable improvement on the R side of the OL. Sure we can get a guy like Banks, Burford, BRendel, Brun, Moore….but at very best they will not be NFL ready until a yr, maybe slightly more. It will be incredibly difficult to improve the OL this yr based on FA and where we are picking.

Of course it wasn't the sack/fumble or int I felt coming but Josh did find a way to blow it all together. We've seen Kyle go conservative so many times in that situation.
Even if we don't count that, he still handed them 7 and took 3-7 points from us in the first half. Just can't have a 10-14 point swing like that in the playoffs.
We are down by 7. We've got a 4th string QB in that KS knows is terrible. Points arent going to come easy. There is still time for the Eagles to get the ball and score. They have timeouts left as well. Disaster would be a 3 and out, punt, and Eagles TD and we go in 21-7 with zero hope. Instead the thought is, lets move the chains and run some clock. Pray to God we can get a FG out of the drive. Go into half down 10-14 and getting the ball in the second and maybe get some better news about Brock. That was our only chance of winning. Dont have a problem trying to win. Thats what the punt block was about. We werent going to play conservative and beat them in a straight on fight.
The real mistake KS made was putting Purdy back in. No need to risk that mans arm. Let Juice run wildcat for all I care. At that point waiving the white towel and running to the locker room was just as sound a thought.

But this injured QB thing has to get better. You can't literally be on your 5th string QB CMC emergency backup. That's just absurd. I've never heard of a team in my life going through 4 QB's with injuries. Then being on a 5th string emergency backup. How many times have you seen that as long as you have been watching the NFL? It's not just a fluke anymore. It happens to every QB they have. Some of them very serious injuries. We need to reevaluate here.
I like Shanny, too.
But something is absolutely amiss.

Very true. Most likely have to hope again, the in-house picks take a big leap next year together. It's possible. But I'd rather not hope again if we don't have too.

But it did work for what 8 weeks? Injuries happen and that particular injury doesnt happen often in the NFL.
We finally had a top 3 offense and you guys now want to blow it up.
It makes no difference what type of offense you run. It always comes down to execution. If guys miss blocks or get the play call wrong then the whole play can get blown up. It's really hard to just line up and overpower other teams. It would require a rebuild of the O line and even then other teams can stop the play when the offense is simple and obvious. The league is more geared to passing than ever.
It does make a difference what type of offense you run. In this day and age, for example, you don't have a lot of offenses running the old Franco Harris/Rocky Blier Steeler run heavy offense. Closest I can see that is similar to that is the Ravens' previous Roman offense.
Execution is worthless if the opposing team knows you have to run the ball.
What I'm asking Kyle to do is tweak his offense to (a) reduce injury to the QB (b) tweak the offense to cater to Purdy's super fast speed reading ability and mobility. I.e. instead of using the play action pass and getting his Ulnar Ligament ripped to shreds, use moving pockets like the Sprint Right/Sprint Left options and a more diversified and elaborate scramble drill to his offense. This does not mean eliminating the TE boot pass at all or the play action pass.

Yeah I agree. We have to look at things. Maybe change some of our blocking schemes. Perhaps keep more guys in. Which has the downside of potentially making us less explosive in some areas of the offense. But we can't go on like this. 5th string emergency QB CMC. I don't see any other teams doing this. Some of these are serious injuries. We have to adjust IMO. This team can't go on like this.

There's a risk of injury for every single snap in football.
Yeah, but not equally to every player. For example - A QB handing the ball off to an RB, his risk of injury isn't higher than the RB running the ball.

Solid Oline that managed to get 4 different QB's hurt this season....
Maybe the issue is the scheme?
How often does that honestly happen....4 different QB's hurt 3 of which end up with season ending injuries.
Personally I think a part of it (not all of it) this scheme. It's a freaky coincidence that BDN also had a similar injury.

Oline isn't to blame for Trey getting hurt on a designed run.
Oline isn't to blame for Jimmy refusing to throw the ball away.
Oline isn't to blame for Purdy getting injured when the player that hit him was blocked by a TE.
Two of those three injuries could be tied directly to the scheme.
Agree 💯%.

IMO you have to go through emotional growth in order to excel under pressure. Reid took his lumps and has that experience.
Learning through making mistakes. Failure. Doing the wrong things and not doing the right thing.
Not utilize every tool you have to succeed.
I hope we're not his emotional growth stepladder, but he'll definitely take these experiences and failures with him in the future when he leaves, whenever that is.
