If weight was so meaningful wrt OL, why doesn't every team just add the heaviest guys to their line?

Joe Staley was 300lbs soaking wet and is a 6x pro-bowler

David Bakhtiari is 310lbs, multiple all-pro

Laremy Tunsil Is 310lbs and probably the 2nd best LT in football.

Trent Brown is like 400lbs

Around the league I've seem QBs get freaking destroyed regularly and still got up. That just wasn't the case with us.

Some people just can't admit that the only thing to blame is extremely bad luck. No they gotta have someone to blame. Honestly, it's understandable as its human nature to try to make sense of things that just have no explanation other than pure chance

It's easy to say people don't watch football when talking about the injuries to the QB but when does it stop being "extremely bad luck" and when does it turn into a trend for this football team?

Jimmy G is working on his 3rd freak accident that cost him the majority of those seasons. Trey has had his second debilitating injury which ended up costing him this season. And Brock has now had his first which would have cost him his rookie season if it wasn't already over.

I've watched plenty of other teams over the years and SF has been the poster child for QB injuries over the past 5 years.

Which NFL teams have been devastated more by it than the Niners?

QB injuries cost us the season in 2018, 2020, and 2022. Sure there were others injuries but QB is the most important and Shanahan hasn't shown he can keep his QB's healthy for long stretches or let alone consecutive seasons. I figured Jimmy was just injury prone and maybe he is but what about the other 2 QB's, both had season ending injuries this year as well?

Maybe you're right and there is nothing behind it but bottom line is Kyle needs to find a way to keep his QB healthy because having 3 "starting" QB's on his roster this year wasn't enough.

Once he moved over to the athletic ive really grown to enjoy his stuff. Was always a good writer, but a little too snarky for my taste

Its silly to argue about one guy being on the lighter side. Kelcey is the lightest center in football and a perennial all pro.

But we are talking about the entire right side. 3 regulars are bottom 5 percent in weight. And mcg is bottom 30 % is pretty tall and doesn't pass pro that great to begin with.

Its something to consider because kyle doesnt really prioritize pass pro. Usually we get by but against philly we played an elite pass rush and got clocked.

Question: did we adjust pass pro scheme just for philly? Maybe the weight thing plays together with our pass pro schemes. We didn't double reddick and paid the price cause it would have messed up our orbit motion. Probably not just one answer.
5th in pass pro efficiency. 6th fewest sacks. 10th fewest qb hits.

Seems pretty prioritized to me. Hardly just getting by.

I know it's a tiny, tiny hostile % of 49ers Fandom, but that anybody could look at a 6-year span in which a coach took the 49ers to 3 NFC title games, the last one with a rookie 3rd-string QB and decide YES NOW HE MUST BE FIRED... Is tremendous Enraged Fan behavior. So wise!

Kawakami made that major face turn after Shanahan and Lynch came in.

Yea. Crazy stats. Some of that is purdy being slithery.

It doesnt feel like our oline is dominant. The stats come out in our favor for other reasons. We couldnt deal with philly.

This is the biggest disconnect I have with the WZ. I see us as one of the best OL in the game. I come on here and our line sucks, McG sucks, same McG projected to cash in major in FA..

It's like we could sign the best LT in the game.. ppl would still say the line isn't elite.. oh wait, we did that..

OL could definitely stand to improve. Football is still won in the trenches so every year the goal should be to continue to improve both sides of the line, stack them up as much as possible but the OL isn't the disaster some make it out to be either.

some people just can't accept reality that you have to build a team under certain constraints and hope potential talent pays off.

No team is perfect even if they are ranked number 1 in all categories.
