I don't agree with Kyle on Darnold as QB 2 over Lance, but I'm just a random guy on a message board that has no influence over the actual decisions. So I'm gonna trust and hope it pans out with Purdy bringing our 6th back home so we never need QB2 to play lol.

I never thought I'd see the day where who was the QB2 for the niners would involve such drama and controversy and be such a big national story.

A. Reports were true that Shanahan wasn't happy with Trey when he got here. Him keeping jimmy was a reflection of that. He sucked it up and hoped Trey would develop. Treys injury was sort of a blessing for shanny, as bad as that sounds
B. Brocks play really made trey expendable.
I'm going with both. If Brock didn't play well last year I see darnold as our starter this year with Trey as a back up.
Shanny was never happy with Trey. It was evident with the draft process. It was evident with the way he used Trey year 1. It was evident how he used Trey year 2. He had no patience for him.
If Brock didn't play well last year, they might have looked to add a different QB back in March thru FA instead of Darnold.

anyone that wants KS fired isnt a serious person.
Acting like he can't be fired isn't being serious
Of course he can be fired.
Wanting him to be fired isn't serious.
at all.
Welcome to sports.
No....welcome to hot take couch GMs that have never been effective leaders of teams/people (at work) in their life.
people lash out at sports/coaches/athletes as a reaction to their own insecurities and lack of success in their personal life.
Projecting?
Of course not. I have been around the world. I know what's in the hearts of men.
go through my 10 years plus on the zone.
I never tell the coach gm players what they should have done with hindsight goggles.
I have moments where i "wish" things would be different.
And I hated Nolan haha

This was all about picking the guy with the highest floor. A guy that could come in with the best chance to not screw it up. It isn't about who might turn out to be the best in five years. It is about winning the Super Bowl this year. In Kyle's eye, that guy is Darnold.

If it's all about winning the SB this year than someone like Jacoby Brissett should've been the guy. Much higher floor than Sam.

Realistically no one is winning the SB this year as SF's QB except Purdy. But if there's a game or two where Purdy needs to be out for injury Darnold is a better in-the-moment for that instance stop-gap. If Darnold has to play more than that he's highly unlikely to deliver like Foles did in 2017. Same goes for the backups in Philly, KC, Buffalo, etc.

Been much more consistent and reliable in his career. Been on plenty of bad teams himself.
Stay healthy Brock
