Two things can be true.

1) It's a complete abomination to give up a significant amount of draft assets for a raw project only to give up on him in year 3. They recognize it and own up to it. But this will have longer-term impacts to the constructs of this team (e.g., shoring up O-line, succession plan to Trent, Armstead).

2) They continue to luck out to find gems that came out of nowhere. Purdy, Jennings, Brendel, Greenlaw, Huf, Mitchell, etc. But for the QB specifically, I look at Shanahan QB approach to cars. They want the shiny new lux car, but its prone to breakdowns and unreliability. And instead of focusing to fix it and break it in, you revert back to an old beater that may not look sexy, but it gets you from A-B.

JG was the beater. Purdy was the beater. Cousins was the beater. RGIII, Johnny M, and Lance were the lux cars that didn't pan out.

Thankfully, we have our first round pick again in '24. So from a draft standpoint, we are now reset to the norm.
I want a question why Kyle Shanahan didn't get the championships Trophy for us when he been here for 6 or 7 years?!. If He is continue here of the years when he is not smart a head coach IQ?!?!

Shanahan never wanted Manziel or RG3 though. Both of those were owner picks.

I don't think we could afford Cousins next year even if they wanted to bring him in.

I hope they draft another QB in ROUND 2 that is at the highest. But I'll settle for a mid to late round pick.....Yes I'm looking at you Grayson MCall and Riley Leonard!!!

Next year, the priority should be protecting Purdy and making sure his career is Looooong! Maybe as long as playing till he's 45 of course this is assuming he plays like an all pro player this season . Now having said that, the next priority is to get some competition between Sam and another QB2 level player to back up Brock and do the best they can to deepen the QB squad. I'd like a younger Brandon Allen with a stronger arm and maybe a bit more mobility - but that will get you into draft capital that's may be too high.

Free agency is definitely an option if they don't want to expend draft capital on a potential QB2. I wish we could have kept Trey, but Trey needs to play to improve - being QB3 on this team is just going to hold him back from improving and being his best. I think he has a shot at being QB1 or QB2 in Dallas as he continues and develop in maybe two or three years.

Very solid post Giedi!

OLine should be Priority A1.

Should, but probably won't. If Drake doesn't pan out, then the pick will be an ER. If he does do well, then a first round NT, TE, or CB.

Um I can just about promise you it won't be a CB. This is also the first year they ever drafted a TE on day 2.

Kyle's choices are Cousins & Beathard

It'll most likely be a DL.

Nah I think they will take a tackle. Just have my fingers crossed that for first time in the Shanny era we get a 2nd round corner.

Kyle's not 50 yet. Walsh was 50 when he had his first super bowl win.

Kyle said he wants to coach until he's 60. So we have him for at least 15 more years! 20+ years here, baby! Let's go!

Actually wasn't Manziel picked by the homeless guy the owner talked to the night before the draft?

McVay is presiding over a bottom feeder franchise that doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Kyle's been to a couple of NFC championship games, found a young franchise QB that looks like he'll be playing for 15+ years, and lost a super bowl with a lesser QB than what he currently has. Arrow up for the 49er franchise under Kyle, and not so arrow up for McVay's franchise.

If Kyle wins super bowls the way Belichick did, why not coach till he's 75+ Belichick said basically the same thing, but he's still coaching and he's now in his 70's.
