Loved Harbaugh
I think Harbaugh would love to run Kyle's offense. Both offenses usually feature a strong run game. Both love to pound defenses into the ground. I think both like the explosive plays, where Harbaugh and Kyle differ - I think is on the OLine. Harbaugh will usually only gap blocks, whereas Kyle will zone block, gap, whatever, you name it, he'll do it. Kyle's more offensively creative overall than Harbaugh.
Jim wasnt really an offensive coordinator or playcaller. He had an offensive philosophy but the implementation was done by Roman. Jim was more of a managerial coach and culture guy. Cant really compare him to Kyle at all in terms of offensive creativity. Kyle is leagues ahead.
Agree, Jim was from the Bo Schembechler school of 3 yards and a cloud of dust era. I don't see him going back to the NFL - as teams are so predominantly pass happy in the NFL. But maybe they will if they pay him enough. Agree to your point about Jim's football knowledge - he's a good coach, but not at the level of Kyle Shanahan in terms of X's and O's, for sure.
But again, both coaches approach the game similarly. They had pocket QB's (at least while Smith was there), they both have great running backs. (CMC, Gore) and their QB's are mobile (Colin, and to a certain extent Brock). Jim wanted an Aiyuk - speed and route runner guy, but Baalke drafted AJ Jenkins. 🤮🤮🤮 Jim had some of the biggest OLinemen in the NFL, and with Kyle, you have Big Trent, and Banks isn't a small guy either. Both had excellent Tight Ends, Vernon Davis and Kittle. I think offensively, both coaches see the game very similarly.
Personally, if Jim wanted to get back into the NFL, one way of doing it would be to be Kyle's assistant coach, sort of like how Griese or Anthony Lynn is now. He'd get Kyle's offense and learn it, and then move on to an NFL team like Saleh, Demeco, and McVay have done. But I doubt he'd humble and demote himself to be Kyle's understudy though. If we do lose Griese to a Head Coaching Job, I think (if I was GM) would call Jim to see if he'd have any interest coming back to the 49ers as an assistant head coach to Kyle or something like that. Sort of like what Anthony Lynn is now with Kyle.
