I think Harbaugh would love to run Kyle's offense. Both offenses usually feature a strong run game. Both love to pound defenses into the ground. I think both like the explosive plays, where Harbaugh and Kyle differ - I think is on the OLine. Harbaugh will usually only gap blocks, whereas Kyle will zone block, gap, whatever, you name it, he'll do it. Kyle's more offensively creative overall than Harbaugh.

Jim wasnt really an offensive coordinator or playcaller. He had an offensive philosophy but the implementation was done by Roman. Jim was more of a managerial coach and culture guy. Cant really compare him to Kyle at all in terms of offensive creativity. Kyle is leagues ahead.

Agree, Jim was from the Bo Schembechler school of 3 yards and a cloud of dust era. I don't see him going back to the NFL - as teams are so predominantly pass happy in the NFL. But maybe they will if they pay him enough. Agree to your point about Jim's football knowledge - he's a good coach, but not at the level of Kyle Shanahan in terms of X's and O's, for sure.

But again, both coaches approach the game similarly. They had pocket QB's (at least while Smith was there), they both have great running backs. (CMC, Gore) and their QB's are mobile (Colin, and to a certain extent Brock). Jim wanted an Aiyuk - speed and route runner guy, but Baalke drafted AJ Jenkins. 🤮🤮🤮 Jim had some of the biggest OLinemen in the NFL, and with Kyle, you have Big Trent, and Banks isn't a small guy either. Both had excellent Tight Ends, Vernon Davis and Kittle. I think offensively, both coaches see the game very similarly.

Personally, if Jim wanted to get back into the NFL, one way of doing it would be to be Kyle's assistant coach, sort of like how Griese or Anthony Lynn is now. He'd get Kyle's offense and learn it, and then move on to an NFL team like Saleh, Demeco, and McVay have done. But I doubt he'd humble and demote himself to be Kyle's understudy though. If we do lose Griese to a Head Coaching Job, I think (if I was GM) would call Jim to see if he'd have any interest coming back to the 49ers as an assistant head coach to Kyle or something like that. Sort of like what Anthony Lynn is now with Kyle.

Harbaugh was definitely a "3 yards and a cloud of dust" dude. Not a seriously gifted mind offensively, but the wag had had of getting the VERY most of his QB was terrific. He didn't scheme the Xs and Os like Kyle can, but his support and motivation Mande the position so much better.

Agree, I think Harbaugh fits better with the College crowd. He has total control over his Michigan Wolverines the way Kyle has with the 49ers. But Harbaugh doesn't have to deal with the big egos of the NFL like Kyle has to do with the Bosa deal, DeeBo deal, Kittle and Warner deals etc... I have a feeling he'd have somehow interfered with and could most likely have screwed up those deals with his insane ways of meddling. He's a control freak that I think fits better with the College level kind of administrative control that College Head Coaches have. Kyle has his Dad to help him deal with the egos and coaches training that he has to do every year as bottom feeding front offices keep poaching his coaches and his front office personnel. Jim Harbaugh - to me - I don't think could attract the kind of high level coaching talent that Kyle can at the NFL level. I doubt if Foerster, Kocurek, or Wilks would ever coach for a Jim Harbaugh.

He's a quality QB and the ship has sailed a long time ago, it's over
it's over if Brock doesn't fall off the flat earth

Pretty much. That being said I doubt Purdy will become trash because he plays the position in a fundamental way that is sustainable.
But Kyle surely thought about Cousins at some point.
And to be honest, Cousins is really good. The problem with Cousins is his lack of mobility. He can't improvise.
Kyle has this team hyper-focused. Well done!

Hes been one of the better QBs in football for years but weirdly catches s**t over having been on some trash teams. I think if Kyle had stuck with his original plan of signing Cousins and didn't trade for Jimmy G, Kirk would still be the 49ers QB right and they'd have at least one more SB win.

Phoenix woke up and chose violence! Love it.

I agree with your analysis here. Kyle is a better offensive coordinator, but Jim is a better head coach.

Could you imagine if Jim was our head coach and Kyle was our OC! 🔥 🔥 🔥

Totally disagree. Kyle wouldn't play a guy fresh off a DUI. Kyle wouldn't let the inmates run the asylum off the field.

The culture Kyle had built in SF is far superior.

Never. When Cousins is old and broken, Kyle will sign him to be a backup.

Or QB coach.

Most likely true, though if we had signed Cousins in 2018, we most likely wouldn't have been bad enough to get Bosa.

We weren't winning a super bowl with Kirk Cousins. Shanny should have stuck to his plan if he felt that was true.
