Exactly.

I'd go even further and say that these struggles have materialized in games we've ended up winning big.

Against Arizona, we watched Josh Dobbs lead TD drives of 87 and 99 yards while winning the TOP battle. The box score shows a blow-out, but this was a game their offense gained nearly as many yards as ours did. Likewise, Stafford and the Rams won the TOP battle by a wide margin, while outgaining our offense. Our defense had a really hard time getting these lesser opponents of the field. Of course not every game will be perfect, but when these struggles on D materialized against better teams, when guys like Burrows and Cousins carved up our D, when our offense wasn't humming to its standards, those issues were critical in becoming losses.

The browns allowed 38 points to the colts24 to Seahawks etc

I mean taking a few games out of a season let alone a drive does not make sense I could easily cherry pick and game or two but that's not how you analyze a unit

I mean making an argument our D is problematic because we let Josh dobbs score a TD in a game we won 36 to 16

i mean objectively you don't realize how ridiculous this sounds?

Oh for f**k's sake...

seriously.. not sure why you guys are trying to get too technical about it.

it really comes down to is just score touchdowns and don't give up touchdowns

Sounds like something John Madden would say, lol.

But that's part of my point we have allowed the least touchdowns in the nfl and we're calling the defense problematic

Because it has been in almost every game we've played against a good offense (or even more specifically a good passing team*) except for one. And again, there isn't a definitive conclusion here based on the sample of games we have… it's something to keep an eye on as we go forward and have time to make adjustments.

There isn't a single level of concern about these issues when we play dogs**t teams.

The next time a defense gives up zero TD's through 10 games, you let me know. Because that will be one for the record books.

I can see you've not been following along. Who are you even arguing with?

I'd settle for our defense playing more consistently on 3rd downs, giving our offense more opportunities, instead of this Jekyll and Hyde b******t.

They are #1 in TD's allowed this season but folks are unsatisfied and seems will continue to be unsatisfied until the 49ers defense does the impossible.

it's want vs reality. We all want it but we have to be realistic here.

Also, Some of those losses, it took the refs to bail out Cleveland and Minn with late game extending drives.

you are valuing a defensive conversion with a 2+ score lead the same as a tie/close game which isn't fair

Here is another stat our defense is giving up 1.5 points/drive. that's the 3rd best in NFL. So exactly how are they not doing their job? Most turnovers forced and least points allowed

Also if what you are guys are arguing is plays. Our defense has played 640 snaps which is ranked 7th so only 6 defenses have been on the field less than us. And considering most of our wins have been 2+score leads i think that shows our D is getting off the field fine

Strawman. No one is asking the impossible. Again, I'd like to see a better scheme that gets more stops on third down. So far, a much better job after the bye, but it's a work in progress.

What is your reasoning that most of this fanbase wanted Wilkes fired at the bye, or at the very least an overhaul on scheme? Was it because our defense was doing what they were supposed to be doing?

Me too. I'd like to see a better scheme that has given up less TD's this season. The truth is, there haven't been any.
