What is your reasoning that most of this fanbase wanted Wilkes fired at the bye, or at the very least an overhaul on scheme? Was it because our defense was doing what they were supposed to be doing?

Yeah, you're right, Wilkes moved down from the booth because everything was going to plan with this defense. Good lord.

I can see you've not been following along. Who are you even arguing with?
I'd settle for our defense playing more consistently on 3rd downs, giving our offense more opportunities, instead of this Jekyll and Hyde b******t.
They are #1 in TD's allowed this season but folks are unsatisfied and seems will continue to be unsatisfied until the 49ers defense does the impossible.
Strawman. No one is asking the impossible. Again, I'd like to see a better scheme that gets more stops on third down. So far, a much better job after the bye, but it's a work in progress.
Me too. I'd like to see a better scheme that has given up less TD's this season. The truth is, there haven't been any.
Again, you're making a strawman to argue against. Enjoy yourself, I'm out.

if moving the DC down from booth to field made the defense better then there was nothing wrong with the scheme or playcalling then
look if you want to criticise the defense that's fine it just sounds ridiculous to say the defense is a problem when we have allowed the least amount of points per game and forced the 2nd most amount of turnovers
this isn't a logical discussion

How is it a strawman argument? Points are a better indicator of wins and losses than yards.

Is that the only change that was made at the bye? Looked to me that there was more zone coverage, different personnel, and different blitz looks/packages. Seems like quite a bit of change for something you seem to think was doing just fine leading up to the bye.

Because you're creating an argument that no one here is making. Discussing ways the defense can improve and give the offense more opportunities is a valid topic. No need to derail.

Do you really think that 0.3 more scoring opportunities a game for the offense is what is going to put us over the top?

Also, Some of those losses, it took the refs to bail out Cleveland and Minn with late game extending drives.

i agree but we have the 7th fewest defensive snaps in the nfl
only 6 defenses have been on the field less than us and we have the largest point differential in the NFL so in the 2nd half i bet we are more conservative with our defense.

I think in the games the defense has struggled to get off the field on third downs, those issues need to be addressed when playoff time rolls around, because a QB that can negate our pass rush by hitting quick hitters, marching down the field, taking over the TOP and keeping our high powered offense on the bench could pose a big issue. Again, there's a reason why this fanbase was up in arms regarding Wilkes. His scheme has been suspect and it was very apparent in our losses, and even in a couple of our wins.

if the scheme is suspect why hasn't translated to opponents' points? we are allowing the same amount of yards/game as last year and the same amount of yards/play as last year
If the defense is suspect this year than it was last year too

Conversely we have the sixth fewest offensive plays per game. In fact, our opponents are averaging over two more plays per game, and that number is more pronounced in games we've struggled. Our defense has had issues getting the opposition off the field on third downs, and have allowed QBs like Stafford, Cousins, and Burrows to march up and down the field, negating our pass rush with quick hitters that are open because our scheme has been s**t at times. Are we really trying to claim that there hasn't been issues with our defensive scheme?

So your assessment is strictly based off the 3 game skid and ignore the 6 dominating wins we've had this year?

opponents have scored on 29% of drives against us that's 4th best in NFL
Like i said this isn't a logical argument we are top 5 in pretty much every statistic and we are calling the scheme suspect and saying teams are marching up and down the field despite us allowing the least amount of points and offensive touchdowns
we allowed the same amount of yards last year but are forcing more turnovers and allowing less points
so by your definition, the D was suspect last year too. I mean only one team scored more than 23 points than us and we are calling the scheme weak
Lets flip this around if the offense only scored more than 23 points one time this season would we say the offense is playing well?
