All these legendary coaches moving on these past few days.....should grow a stronger appreciation for Shanahan.
There is not enough a pool of excellent offensive minds to go around. Firings are all defensive minds.
Yes, we have an incredible offensive scientist for a coach. Don't take a single game for granted.
Yes, absolutely.
Consider this for a second, people....
The Niners have had a top 3 defense essentially since 2019. Lots of talent, but the DCs have been good to very good...
Now we have Wilks whom people want to criticize (and there is some merit to that), and yet despite all that the defense is still performing very well -- big picture, we've been spoiled seeing a bit more dominance, and that's clouded our judgment somewhat.
We see good work from Saleh, Ryans and think "oh man, they can't be let go!" and yet they do and we're still more or less ok.....no real disasters. This year we had a 3 game hiccup with Wilks, but other than that, not bad.
But big picture wise....none of those 3 are truly elite defensive minds I'd say, if we're going to compare to the greats. Very good, but not sure if absolutely elite...
Meanwhile, what would it take to replace Shanahan's offensive juggernaut? Consider the Jets, Texans, and Dolphins for a moment...all using KS's system...
Jets OC left SF with Saleh, and has been replaced. QB Wilson was a bust, ok....but you don't think Wilson could've at least did what CJ and Mullens did here?
Texans have Bobby Slowik who is seemingly very good with QBs......and they drafted a seeming stud at QB as well. But how would the Texans offense look without these two pieces? If Slowik leaves, how will the Texans look?
Dolphins, everybody loves the studs they have, but it wouldn't look the same with most other OCs. Not saying it's only going to be a good offense with McDaniels, but it would be very hard to replace that level of production. And even with all this production, the offense doesn't chop away at the truly best teams. Not yet at least, but there are concerns there....
Consider the Bills too......super stud QB, and sooooooo hard to maximize him. As good as he is, he should be doing more in theory.....
Chargers have a stud QB and some real weapons and can't consistently dominate.
And what about Reid and the Chiefs?? You think Kyle would ever have such a down year like that? Here we have what people think is the "BEST" QB in the NFL......you don't think it should be smoother than it is?
Meanwhile the irony is people underrate Purdy nationally, and give Kyle the credit.....
But Niner fans keep questioning him.
