Going for it on 4th down looks great when it works but there's a time and place for it. Doing it ina big game when there's a lot on the line is stupid. I've seen Oregon's coach do this a few times the past 2 years and it cost them the conference title twice.
Sure... But at the same time if Campbell makes better decisions Lions most likely win. We have skated by against a mediocre GB team that we won by the skin of our teeth. We came out and got completely outclassed in the first against a good Detroit team. Now we flipped the script in the 2nd and that is something I had little faith we could do as Kyles history is terrible being behind so maybe he has gotten over that hump.
If we come out and play like we did against GB and the first half yesterday against Mahomes and Reid, I don't see us having a chance. The ball has bounced our way thus far.

Many of the younger coaches believe strongly in the going by the metrics. Older coaches with more experience go by their own feelings. The guys that go by the metrics seem to forget that real games are played by real players. They aren't computer generated AI players. The human factor doesn't always follow the computer model.

I don't think Dan made poor decisions. You don't judge from the outcome, you judge from the decision. He made the right moves imo. The kicker they have, was unemployed most of the season, trotting him out for what would have been maybe 48 yds, which is around what Moody missed, is not at all automatic. If the kicker whiffs, everyone would say welp he should have gone for it, he's questioning his own identity and what got him here.. he's coaching scared, and so forth..

Question….so who gets blamed for the epic collapse in the NFCC?
is it the HC Dan Campbell OR the hot shot OC Ben Johnson? The guy who's gotten all the credit for everything offensively this yr? Up a ton of points then blows the biggest lead in NFCC history.
cause I haven't heard ONE person put any blame on Johnson today. Zero.

If our score stays the same in the end and they stopped going for it on 4th and kicked FG's like most HC's would....we go home.

Bagley has been kicking in the league for years. Didn't miss a kick while in DET.
The one time he should have went for it (4th in goal at the 3 yard line) he kicks a freaking FG lol. Could have put the game away at halftime up 28-7.
like I just mentioned who gets blamed for the epic collapse? Campbell or the young hot shot OC? Cause I haven't heard one person blame Johnson this AM.

Their kicker has a horrible success rate when kicking outdoors. He hasn't made a FG outside in a couple years.

who gets the blame for their epic collapse? That's what I'm asking. The HC or the OC?

I don't question Dan Campbell's decision-making to go for it. A lot of their 3rd and 4th down strategy revolves around it... that's just the way they play ball.
For them, what I question though is (1) the play calls, and (2) the execution in the second half.

Who's at fault for rostering a kicker like that anyway?
They had Riley Patterson who was like a 88.9% kicker this yr. They just randomly cut him for whatever reason.

Doesn't seem like anyone, media doesn't want to place blame on the Lions anymore than give the Niners credit. They chalk it up to luck.
