Yup. We actually got KCto 4th down in their own territory in ot. If we kicked 1st they may punt it rather gamble it all on 1 play.

Crazy thought...how about we stop them and win the game?

I also find it hard to believe that a team adamant they were going to be aggressive and go for 2 even if we matched TDs wouldn't go for it on 4th and 1 in OT and kick it off to us to win with a FG. Also it shouldn't need to be said but you playcall differently knowing you have 4 downs vs 3. You can make the claim that's why you want the ball 2nd and I won't disagree with you but once again pretending there wasn't a logical reason for taking it first is also wrong.

I am saying his logic was flawed. Defense was gassed regardless after all that football. He should have deferred.. Reid had the right thinking for OT, Kyle did not.

I felt we should've taken it 2nd as well but I still understood the logic behind it and analytics had it split 50/50 so people using those to bash Kyle are being ridiculous. Literally a coin flip and there are pros/cons to either decision.

Either way it is not that decision that lost us the game it was the lack of player execution after the decision was made. Think of it this way, if Chiefs won the coin toss they would've taken the ball first so we would've gotten the same exact scenario we got. Would people then not blame Kyle for the loss?

The game for the most part was a FG fest. Now maybe Kyle needs to understand other coaches wouldn't settle for a FG no matter what but had we stopped the Chiefs on their 3rd and 1 at our 32...MAYBE they kick the FG and we get another sudden death possession to win it.

There is logic to both being the right decision but the execution has to be there to back up the logic. Unfortunately for us the execution was not there so now people get to second guess it.

I understand, but I guess Mark Schlereth said how I feel about it. The best player on the planet is Mahomes. To give him the last say was beyond dumb.

I'm not discounting your other points either. Our best players failed again. CMC fumble, Bosa was like a cat chasing a red laser on that 4th down when TW was screaming watch the qb keep, Purdy missing the blitz after the 2 minute warning, Deebo dropped a pass on a crossing route early, the o line was hot garbage after the first quarter, Greenlaw going down destroyed the defense too. etc etc. But in the end that all falls back on Kyle (fair or unfair) and his ot decision was ill decided.

Great minds think alike!
I thought the turning point was when we got the ball on the Chiefs 45 after the interception in the 3rd quarter and failed to get any points.

Yep, then muffed the punt that led to 6 for them.

3 straight pass attempts. 8/9 pass attempts on the 3 drives. Flabbergasting TBPH…

Just hard to even think about how close we were. I agree also that was the turning point. Can't get zero points there when Moody could hit from like 56. Just needed to get like 5-7 yards for points...

This is the most painful loss in 49er football history in my opinion.

The last 7 playoff losses all are equally bad. Like the 49ers have found every single way to f**k up winning a Super Bowl. Shout out to this franchise

Once again you seem to want to overreact to make your point vs taking a step back and evaluating the drives properly.

It was 3 3 and out drives. That's 9 total plays.
Go back and look at the down and distance on them. You're not running it on 3rd and long. And when you're averaging less than 4 YPC you're unlikely to run on 2nd and long too.

The first drive was after the pick. Most coaches go for a kill shot there and iirc we had a big play dialed up that is there but pass pro broke down.

2nd down was a run play before Banks false starts, you can see him in run blocking mode during the false start. Now you have 2nd and long. That's a pass play.

2nd drive we had another big play that gets blown up and Jennings catches a pass for a big loss. Now it's 2nd and long again.

3rd drive we run it and gain a whopping 0 yards.

This is the difference between overreacting to the game and actually analyzing what happened in detail.

Very true Genus. That Banks false start was a killer. In my opinion, though, this is the 3rd worst painful loss. First was the first KC loss. I really thought we had that game won and do think the refs stole that game from us. Then the Baltimore loss. So close but then horrible playcalling with all those pass plays, and I think we win if Kapernick gets that play called before Harbaugh called the timeout when it was a designed QB run. A split second is all we needed. And then this loss. We were the better team but lost because of missed opportunities and mistakes. But even if we get that 3rd and 4 before regulation, Moody still has to kick a game winning super bowl kick and that's not a guarantee. I'm 44, and so I was able to experience the Joe Montana/Steve Young Super Bowls and went in person with my dad to season tickets at Candlestick. Haven't been to Santa Clara yet. And I was also able to experience the SF Giants and SF Warriors championships. So I have been blessed. The 49'ers lost their last 3 Super Bowls because they couldn't finish off the execution like the Giants and Warriors were able to do. But at least we made it to the Super Bowl and are now the nemesis of the NFC. We have given the Cowboys and Packers such heartache over the past decade and now the Lions. So that has been a lot of fun!

Not only that. The defense forced a punt on next drive and got the offense the ball in decent field position once again. The offense proceeded to go three and out on three passes. The score was 10-3 at this time. A score on either of those drives would have changed the game. The play calling in third quarter was appalling.
The offense dropped the ball so many times

Very true. I think if we score on either one of those 2 drives we likely win the game. The playcalling on those 2 drives was very bad.

This has been the theme of shanahans coaching career. It won't change. The dude crumbles when things get tense or don't go his way. I'm very much looking forward to how he's going to mess up next season
