not bad ideas. Summer camp hat should be some kind of bucket hat.

The draft hat has been going on for a while. And spring training hats are a thing also. My favorite draft hat was the one when we got Bosa.

that's a good one, I think that's an homage to the state of CA flag
Kyle really loves Colton McKivitz like he loved Mike Clutch McGlinchey.

God I hope not...I really hope Kyle understands the importance of the OL now and it seems like we have a draft in front of us where the class SHOULD provide multiple selections that could help the team even if they may not start week 1.

It's hard to argue with the fact that we hid our OL weakness most of the year and you could even argue if Feliciano didn't get hurt maybe we win that game but surely Kyle must understand he's got a QB worth building around...PROTECT HIM!

I have my issues with Kyle and while I'm very verbose about defending him vs stupid and over the top criticism if we walk out of this draft without any premium picks on the OL I will join the Kyle is on the hot seat list club.

I hear you. It could be coach-speak (from the owners meeting) or perhaps he really does see him the way he saw MM after the media continued to ask why the OL sucked: "We don't suck" ~ MM

It's been a big blindspot for him and John in their team building strategy. A good example is how in the same interview, he was so focused on run defense this FA as their #1 priority. Yet, while they were 26th, it had zero effect getting to the Superbowl and had no bearing on the game itself.

The question is, if they didn't do it for Jimmy (who actually needed it more), will they for Brock?

Stay tuned.

For me, I've just lowered my expectations and chalk it up to every FO has their blind spots that cost them in the end. This is theirs.

But, Kyle did note "the draft" after talking about McKivitz and how excited he was to return all 5 starters on the OL. So there might be light!

Either way, with TW's inability to stay healthy all year, his age, Banks and Feliciano being FA's next year, etc. they can't push the can too far down the road.

Not too sure Reid is an elite coach as well. Just happened to be on the right team at the right time. I do think Belichik was an elite coach, however.

I've yet had anyone to explain to me, outside of using hindsight and hypothetical points, how this was a major coaching mistake?

The goal is to score a TD and stop the other team from scoring. Analytics were split on whether to take the ball first or kick it. Virtual deadlock, in fact IIRC it was fraction of a point in FAVOR of taking the ball first.

Personally I admit at the time I was screaming to my wife why wouldn't you take the ball second because then you know what you have to match or exceed. However someone brought up an excellent point - towards the end of the game our defense looked tired and just gave up a quick game tying drive at end of regulation to KC. Taking the ball first gives your defense time to rest and time to get their sh*t together. Not taking the ball first puts them out there again without much time all while giving KC defense more time to rest and give them better opportunities to stop our offensive possession.

There were pros/cons to either choice but at the end of it coaching wise Kyle was not the problem. We went down the field and had a play called on 3rd down that would have given us a TD if our backup RG blocks who he was supposed to. He failed and Kyle made the rational decision to kick the FG and take the lead.

People love to bring up "It's Mahomes!!!" Yes and the result matched that opinion but going into those decisions that Mahomes led offense did not have a single TD drive in that game. The only TD they got in 6 quarters of play(including 2nd half of AFCCG) was after we handed them the ball on our 16 yard line.

We knew Mahomes could get his team FGs and taking the ball first had our defense managed to hold them to a FG, we would have the sudden death possession opportunity.

In the end we blew it but the decision wasn't the reason. It was the execution on the field. Had we scored a TD we don't know what happens on the KC drive. Maybe they still score, maybe they still win by going for 2. Or maybe we stop them and win the SB. Either way the decision to take the ball first was not what lost the game.

I agree. I certainly get both sides of that argument. The only issue there was players not knowing the rules, meaning, after 2 weeks to prepare, the coaching staff didn't cover all possible scenarios with the team???

Agreed I'm hoping this is a situation reminiscent of "you don't just replace a Cassius Marsh"

I remember people freaking out about those comments thinking Kyle and John were delusional but that comment smelled of coach speak at the time. I knew they just didn't see players worth adding at the time so they were just blowing smoke up Marsh's ass while he was the best they had.

Sure enough next season we bring in Bosa and make the deal for Ford and suddenly our biggest weakness became a strength.

Obviously harder to add those level impact players with pick 31 vs 2nd overall but hopefully we manage to add at least 2 impact level players on the OL with this draft class, even if they have to be developed a bit. We need to make pass pro a bigger priority too. I know Kyle loves his run blockers but we gotta find guys who can do both and yes I fully realize it's a league wide issue so it's not easy.

Great take. Let's hope their own self-scouting has lead them down the same Cassius Marsh-road for the OL!

League wide, it's absolutely DL talent >>>> OL talent. But by the time you get down to the 16 playoffs teams, it's been very even, with the OL > DL in Superbowls (esp. when it matters most).

So it's really about where you prioritize, in the end. I still believe in this FO and their vision. But this draft will tell us a TON about their true vision now that they have a real FQB.
