Im mainly hoping to see our defense become more stout - specifically in the run game and third downs. The stats last year for this defense was a little deceiving. We were scoring so many points that a lot of teams had to abandon the run but when we really needed to stop it, we mightily struggled with it. Same with stopping teams on third downs, didn't matter if it was third and long or not, we gave up way too many.

I expect Brock to be sharper and more decisive but if we can get back our rock solid, dependable defensive performance - it'll be a beautiful thing.

The other part is the constant negativity. Just spamming super negative stuff over and over again - why even follow the team if it makes you feel so negative all the time, you know?

Only thing I will come in here and say is "I love Brock!" In the Brock thread once a week or so. Lol but it's not a constant Debbie downer. I also can admit to when he doesn't play well or where he needs to get better. In other words, I wish guys like him were more constructive in what they post.

ShanaLynch has drafted an average of about one all-pro player every draft since 2017 (except for the last two drafts) we'll see if that average holds this season. Assuming it does - we have two+ all-pro players already on the team that nobody knows anything about.

The draft is key to keeping that Superbowl window open. Draft well, and it will stay open for a foreseeable future.

We were missing that two-gapper Red Bryant-esque DLineman against the run last year. I think Wilks (being mainly a DB coach) and not understanding the Pete Carroll defensive line play - didn't see a need for that kind of player on base run downs.

A strong Two Gapping DT (a la Stubblefield/Young or Michael Carter, Sopoaga) forces teams to go sideways on the run and allows the 49ers team speed to string out the run and allows the sideline to be (in a sense) the 12th man that "tackles" the ball carrier by forcing the ball carrier put of bounds.

Wilks was an old man set in his ways..lol. He seemed uncomfortable when more-or different things- were asked from him. I am not sure why they picked him in the first place. Not that he was a total dud but damn, run plays made me clinch teeth. You got to be able to adjust and flourish, as a player or a coach.

I think they were hoping for that compensatory pick for Wilks - gambling that Kyle could teach him the Pete Carroll defense. But that 4-3 under defense is not as easy to teach - if you haven't been in it on the defensive side and have the experience in coaching/playing in it. (Add in the fact that **No one** to my knowledge in the history of the NFL has ever married the Wide 9 to Pete's Cover 3 pattern matching zone coverages.) It's a unique Kyle defensive creation in my opinion.

Kyle is a great coach, and while he knows its a great defensive scheme - he lacks the long term experience in coaching it against all sorts of offensive systems like a Demeco or Sala, to be able to teach it to Wilks.

Its like Bill Belichick trying to coach the offense. Bill has stopped so many offenses with his defensive systems, but when it comes to offense - as great a defensive coach he is - offensively he's a mediocre offensive coach.
