49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

i think every time you are in no man's land you need to go. I also like going at the goal line. Lot of things can go wrong passing out of your own endzone (as Jimmy more than once brilliantly demonstrated). Their protection had to hold up in their own endzone. if we get home on that play we probably win.

It's a joke. It's his overcompensation when ppl call him out for previous games. He's done it before. He could've gone for the kill shot vs NY last week several times but went conservative so the Jets were still technically in it until the 4th quarter.

This week he goes opposite and goes for it on every 4th down when he could've taken the points to keep it close.

Guaranteed his balls just shrunk and you won't be seeing him go for it on 4th down for a good 2 months.

He's a good offensive play caller. He has no coaching instincts…
Kyle was the least of our problems this week.
loved him going for it on 4th. Players just failed to execute or were bested by the opposition. Receivers not getting open, oline not protecting, poor pass rush, horrid 3rd down D and there was nothing safe with our safeties. Brock also made some bad throws…. Team loss.

it's not a joke, he's out there trying to win. unless you have a terrible Carolina type of O, you need to go in these situations. they won't hit 100% of the time. you don't stop doing it when it fails once. a punt is a TO. these kickers are getting unbelievably good at deep field goals, but you need to hit 3 to give yourself more points than 1 TD and pat. hard to punt and field goal your way to victory. roll some dice. and i applaud on the decision, regardless of the outcome.

I mean, a poster here suggested Shanny should have gone for the FG before the 2-minute warning and then try the onside kick, which is actually the right call given the situation.

It's amazing how a fan/poster has a better understanding of in-game management than the so-called "best offensive mind in football".

How many games have these fans/posters won coaching 🤔🤔
they actually executed the Shanny strat, MIN had the ball to end the half, they kicked a FG, then started with the ball in the 2nd half. Shanny himself will tell you, that's a bad omen.

we can see the same hat from week 1 here, and i see a lot of coaches wearing this
probably a mandated hat
i do hope the league gives some options so he can change it up next week
Really sick of every single pass being in the middle of the field. In a crowded mess. Can we change it up a little bit? Throw to the outside. Throw down the field once in a while. Try some different things so the defense has to cover more.

Yup, it's a lot of in breaking intermediate routes with Brock and D's pack the middle. this has been ongoing for a while, dating back to last season.

Shanahan really needs to throw some new plays in. You can't just keep throwing to the middle. Sometimes there are 3 guys in the middle and they throw it anyway. They even got some completions. But that will end in disaster eventually. You can't keep throwing into a crowd and expected good results. Challenge some different areas.

Exactly. That's the point. He has no coaching IQ. Look at that last drive on offense. How many of those plays are sideline plays to preserve clock. You have the mic going into the QB's helmet. Are you telling your guy we're running out of time maybe just spike it to preserve clock or throw the ball at the sideline or take a deep shot so you're team has a fighting chance ?

it was a obvious in that situation we had already lost. Kyle has no clue to finish a game in that type of scenario. Was pretty much stamped when your idiot punter practically rolled the ball to the opposition like a soccer ball pass on that onside attempt. You could tell that dips**t had no clue what he was doing with that attempt.

It's the lack of consistency.

Week 1: 4th quarter. 4th and one inside the 5 playing against a Jets D that is gassed with our running game humming. Easy decision…go for it, get the kill shot, move on to week 2. Instead he goes for the FG. Jets down by 16, still playing hard thinking they can come back.

Week 2: inside the 5, down by 3. Offense struggling. 4th down. Easy decision….take the points. Get the pressure off the offense and let your D handle business. Shanny goes for it instead and doesn't account (sound familiar) for a free rusher.

Awful

Awful

the NYJ was not competitive to the point they simply took Rodgers out of the game. inside the 5 go ahead and go. you back them up to a very long field even if you don't score. there are a lot of ways dropping Darnold into their own endzone and asking him to hold the ball goes sideways. players have to execute and get home. we are paying maybe #1 in NFL for pass rush between Bosa, Hargrave and Floyd. that's a spot to get home. we had a great chance there.
Solid breakdown of someone who actually gets to watch the all-22
