This is exactly where you are wrong. We needed a 12 minute drive here.

You're right, they got to the red zone too fast. Should have ran it three times and punted. That would have shown 'em.

12 minute drives are very rare.

Special teams and defense sucked, won't argue that at all. The playcaller absolutely exacerbated that. Which he has a pattern of doing.

But you still haven't shown WHERE not those drives the clock could have been milked! I went through every play. 49ers had the ball 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter. They then had ZERO plays in the 4th quarter before the game was tied and they got it back under two minutes where a run call would have taken more time off the clock.

Show me, SPECIFICALLY, where a run play would have taken more time off the clock in the 4th quarter before the Rams tied the game and we got the ball back under two minutes. I'll even grant you that the under two minutes drive could have taken more time off the clock, but of course with the game tied under two minutes you're gonna pass more than run and generally try to preserve time

Show me the plays. Lay 'em out in detail. I'll be waiting.

Play by play you can always justify a pass. The point of a good play caller is to make sure tactics don't overcome strategy. You can pound your chest and point to the play by play all you want but you have zero pennants to hang on the wall this decade because of it. Running the ball a play at a time is less efficient per play than a pass, but over time it wears defenses ant chews clocks and eventually you break one. It's what this offense was designed to do. We were the better team with the top rushing back in the league tied with the ball with a minute left. We went pass happy and not only didn't we score but we left time for the opponent to score. Shanny is a great schemer but his game day playcalling loses us games against tough opponents.

Good coaches use the clock

So, all philosophy no specific examples. Got it.

Thanks for losing and conceding the argument as it related to this specific game.

We made 9.7 yards per pass and 4.0 yards per rush. According to your logic we should bench mason and pass every play. Congrats on winning the superbowl

Not what I'm saying at all. Just saying in this specific game time of possession would not have been greatly increased with more run plays in the second half, and compared to the faults of the defense and special teams it is far, far, far down the list for why this specific loss happened.

By the way, you know how many 10+ minutes drives the Chiefs had last year on their way to win the Super Bowl? 0

They had one 9+ min drive and two 8+ min drives all season & playoffs.

How did Reid ever win the Super Bowl then?! Well, because his defense got stops in key situations at the end of close games.

BTW, last year, the 49ers had one 9+ min drive and one 8+ min drive. So right in line with what the Chiefs were doing.

12 minute drives are unicorns. Most successful teams have 6-7 minute scoring drives these days when they're driving the length of the field and trying to run clock. Just look at the Chiefs and 49ers box scores last year.

A 6-7 minute drive *IS* the standard for time consuming drives in the NFL in 2024.

I called Roger Goodell and he said you were right and agreed to overturn the L. He's also awarding us the 2 superbowls Kyle flubbbed away. You should be getting your thank you letter from mrs shannahan in the mail any day now.

Dude, have some grace in defeat. Your argument holds little water, so just admit it. Nobody is saying it reverses the L or some stupid s**t like that. I'm even saying to BLAME KYLE SHANAHAN for the loss yesterday. But do it because his defense and special teams sucked and couldn't get one key stop on the final four drives, not because of some hardon to run the ball and get 12 minute drives that ALMOST NEVER HAPPEN. There's like 5 of those that have happened in the last 25 years across the entire NFL. https://www.sportskeeda.com/nfl/the-nfl-s-five-longest-drives-since-2001

We led all game. Majority of it by 2 scores. Their RB had more carries than ours. Our RB was second in the league in rushing yards up to this point.

If you can't find fault with this simple truth, that sucks for you. Breaking down an offensive series play by play does not justify coach's decisions. It's the same flawed logic you guys used in the SB 3rd quarter, after we intercepted Mahomes pass and went on a passing spree for the next 3 series with nothing to show for it.

you use the run to weaken the defense. Even if it's not working, you keep doing it because eventually against a lesser opponent the dam will either break or you set yourself up for a PA pass. Kyle's philosophy of having Brock doing 5-7 step drop backs every pass in a game he was leading by 10+ was an assinine approach.

Not philosophy… just a feeling we should have ran the ball more 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

An excuse used the exact moment someone's argument falls apart
We've had poor starts like this before and still made deep runs. No McCaffrey, no Deebo, no Kittle and the offense barely took a hit. Shanahan is probably the only coach out there were his top 3 playmaker can get hurt and you'd see little drop off.

We'll be fine.

And if they ran and didn't do s**t you would complain that they didn't throw the ball on a dogs**t secondary that was getting gashed through the air.

arguing with you in this thread is pointless. Folks should realize that by now.

Not taking sides here but I remember a game, a rather big game, early in Kyle's career where he did the same thing and got the same result but he wasn't the HC so it didn't matter. I think you could can it a pattern… not saying it was right or wrong just his tendency. Anyway.. the flip side is bell makes the catch and we aren't having this discussion. Bad calls are only bad when you can't execute. We failed to execute…. I think the bigger issue here is personnel choices. Start with the crap offense line and end with Bell being on the field. We have bigger problems than a coach who calls plays that would have worked if the player did his job. This team is getting destroyed with injuries. Very significant injuries that we may not overcome. Strap in for one of those years.. no postseason…. The sooner we accept it the better. Kyle is who he is and the front office accepts him for that.. maybe we have no choice but to do the same.
I'm not even going to read all these posts. Just gonna state that you/we can hate some of the decisions Kyle makes here and there and rightfully so. Some of those decisions are costly. But I laugh at everybody who advocates to "get rid of Kyle" lol. Yes, let's get rid of the architech of this entire team that has gone to 3 conference championships and 2 super bowls.

Andy Reid walked the same path and was fired for being able to win the big game in Philly. Now look at him. It's not that Kyle can't, it's that he hasn't.
