Different situation. If Darnold had been brought in to be the starter he might have looked just as good or better than he does now. They loved his talent but Brock was the starter. You remember Purdy right. He played so well last year that there was no way Darnold was going to see the field . Naturally Darnold left when he saw the chance to be the starter. Plus he has Justin Jefferson who's better than any 49er receiver.
