49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

Alcohol and drug use aside, it's foolish to deny Kyle's failure as a closer. Love your coach all you want but please don't lie for him. Can he learn from past mistakes? Sure, we all hope for that but his style relative to blown leads and late game collapses has not changed. He continues to add fuel to the "fire Kyle " argument with questionable decisions. Does that mean he should be moved out now…? No, that's not rational but if he continues to blow games and we struggle to stay at .500 at the end of next season we need to move on. Especially if it happens without major injuries. At that point you can toss your nuanced discussions and context rich takes out the window and they can meet Kyle on the curb.

Watch the video. The trend in all 3 Super Bowls are eerily similar. Kyle's inability to seize the moment led to all 3 losses, but his ineptness was diluted because it was easy to blame other facets of the game eg penalties, missed plays, refs, quarterbacks. But you can see in that video that even with a well oiled machine clicking on all cylinders, Kyle found a way to keep the team from closing it out.

It just shows how the Falcons defense couldn't stop Brady to save their lives. You try to reach with your T-rex arms but you still can't get it!!! Lol

You didn't watch the video. It explains how the Atlanta defense collapsed in the 2nd half. Knowing Brady was great at attacking zone, the Falcons played man on D throughout the game. It led to a 21-0 halftime lead and 28-3 lead halfway through the third quarter.

As the video points out, however, is that man defense leads to more fatigue. And NE had over 90 snaps on offense that game, whereas on avg team has 60-70 snaps on offense typically. They got carved up because Kyle did not adjust in the second half. Instead of going to a run heavy offense to milk clock he continued to play pass. That led to play clock stops, PENALTIES, missed assignments, and at the end Atlanta's defense could not adjust.

Kyle's mismanagement of the offensive playcalling directly lead to Atlanta's collapse on both offense and defense. The most egregious of this is showcased on that last drive when Atlanta is in FG range up by 8 points and Kyle called a pass play which led to a sack and put Atlanta out of FG range. Now tell me that was Matt Ryan's fault, not Kyle for calling that play in that situation…

If you want to view a complete team rebuild in 3 years and getting to 4 NFC title games and 2 SBs in 7 seasons as failure then go right ahead. There are 30 other coaches that would love to have that record. Failure is missing the playoffs every year. Failure is getting a top 5 draft pick each year because your team stinks.

Is Andy Reid a great coach? I would say yes but he got run out of Philly because people thought he couldn't win the big games. What changed? He got Mahomes. If Kyle had Mahomes instead of JG or Brock they may have 3 more rings. I know that you're probably going to say he could have drafted him but Mahomes wasn't the same guy when he came out of college. He didn't go #1 overall. He sat for a year behind an experienced Alex Smith. He developed rather than being thrown into the fire.

In hindsight all that will mean NOTHING if he has no ring to show for it. Maybe to some of his fans, but in the NFL world the only thing the 90s Buffalo Bills are remembered for are 4 SB losses….
