We have a handful of plays from it, but we might as well be running a new system. More shotgun, less play action, long developing stuff, less screens and misdirection are all things opposite of the typical Shanahan scheme.
Our personnel are neither a great fit nor good enough overall in pure talent to run that effectively. Whatever he thought was gonna work definitely hasn't. The result is ultimately what we've seen, he doesn't look like he's calling games well and our offense is maddeningly inconsistent even when they're not taking stupid penalties.
Shanahan didn't suddenly become an idiot, but this decision was certainly idiotic. You can't run a different scheme when all your personnel has trained and been picked for one specific fit, and why tf would you do that at the end of a window before major roster turnover?
If you're gonna do that, do it WHEN you have the significant turnover so you can stock up on new, better fits for the new scheme. To me, it seems like he thought he could get away with doing it a year early. Really curious what we plan to do going forward.. We look like an absolute mess right now. A handful of talented players.. But we do nothing that they collectively do well with right now.
Yup, hard to adjust to what defenses are doing when your offensive line is not built for it and are just mostly s**tty overall. Their protections are very bad as well and that's starting to get called out. They don't have true audibles and it doesn't sound like Purdy can really adjust protections for blitzes etc.
The stuff Brady was calling out, and the issues with hots, protections, etc is getting exposed and Kyle has to recognize this or these type of results will continue going forward.
