outside of our 49er injury problem that they have not addressed our poor line play is why were in this spot. when they stopped prioritizing our lines we stopped getting better. this teams strength has turned into our weakness. the lions are in the position they are in because their OL pushes the defense around however they want an dictates the game. we are now the opposite, our OL cant do s**t. our DL gets run all over all game. this team decided to load up on WRs who will never score points(ya looking at your foerester) because their QB will never even have a chance to get them the ball. I hope we don't sign Brock to a long term deal because wel be pissing all that money down the drain since its inevitable hel get knocked out for the season again after a DLmen runs over our trash OL. this team doesn't need weapons or DBs it needs linemen. there was quality DLmen to be had in trades this year an they didn't pick up s**t.

this is why if next year shanahan goes into the year with the same plan for personnel an the OL you may as well write the season off at the start. what's the definition of insanity? its not working, make changes.

Yep you nailed it

Defensive line was how this team made the Super Bowl twice. Offensive line and Defensive line was the case in the Harbaugh era. We mostly neglect the Offensive line with Shany. Puni was a brilliant pick. But other than that they mostly neglect it and it shows. You have to build the lines if you want to win.

yep an what happend when we started ignoring our DL. this. our DL declining and us being at this point is no coincidence. we are porous on our lines. we need that impenetrable always getting pass rush push DL back. we need a big fat aubrayo Franklin plugging up the middle to help maliek Collins, bosa on one edge and dee Ford with different legs on the other side. we can only dream.

We literally lost Bucker and Armstead. Then they got arrogant and thought picks like Kinlaw (major bust) could replace it. Plus expensive, aging vets who don't fit this system (Hargrave). We have never been the same since we lost those two. Especially up the middle. They thought they could replace them in the draft and FA. Both have failed and we haven't been the same since. That's when we were dominant in the middle.

exactly. when our lines started declining the team started declining. the OL never excelled anyways they did just barely enough to get to the SB so they could blow it on the big stage.

we sacrificed our lines so we could have 13 WRs an 34 DBs. what you saw on the field today is the result of that strategy.

"Jumping up and down on the table" is quite the exaggeration. He was really intrigued by the guy and decided to take a chance. It didn't work out. Oh well. Happens everyday year for every team in every draft.

Im` just stating what one of the 9ers beat writer reported that was said doing the draft Captveg I`m not exaggerating anything and oh I see you just skipped right over the things I stated hmmmmm solomon thomas ,Mahomes, Watson

I skipped over those because those have been discussed to death and didn't have some tall tale phrasing.

I don't like that they passed over Mahomes. 31 teams regret not trading 10+ picks in order to draft Mahomes. Not drafting Watson is the opposite: 30 teams are over the moon that they didn't fall into that trap, including SF.

However, context is important. The run defense in 2016 was the worst in team history, so Shanalynch reasonable decided to prioritize shoring that up. They ended up doing it without Thomas in the end, but in context it made sense.

If anything it was changing the plan of going after Cousins that was the problem in the long run. Hoyer couldn't perform well enough as the 1-year bridge QB, so when Jimmy G became available via trade midseason and then played well it created a dilemma: stick with the so far so good, younger but unproven Jimmy G, or still go after the older, but somewhat known ceiling capped Cousins. They swerved and went with Jimmy G. They got to a SB two years later so it wasn't some disastrous choice, but his injuries ultimately revealed mid-level ceiling and ended things with him earlier than it likely would have with Cousins. Retrospect being 20/20 and all that. But that's life.

Anyway, here's the exceptionally well documented 2017 draft re: Williams, and no table jumping is involved. There's not even table pounding. While Kyle is clearly excited about his potential, he's not some gymnastics-performing, scouts-berating maniac you want to frame him as being.

I dont know why everyone keeps saying we arent prioritizing the lineS, rather than saying we arent prioritizing the OL. We are constantly bringing in new DL players. And if someone leaves, he is replaced.

Yes I agree completely. They need to build like the Detroit Lions. Fill in young studs on the Offensive and Defensive lines. That's yet another reason we need to get rid of Shany. Because he will never do it. He will pick yet another WR and ignore the lines.

And we've used very high draft picks on the DL as well.
When Jordan Love went out for 3 games the Packers/LeFleur completely changed the offense around the talent of Malik Willis. They ran read option, RPO, more screens/sweeps, etc. Used some of Willis' running ability as well. Why is that Shanahan can't adapt his offense on the fly to the talent of Josh Dobbs? Instead he requires a robot QB like Brandon Allen who he can run the same Brock Purdy plays for.

I'm not so sure that prioritizing the DL is the way to go. Nowadays, rules favor the offense and O-linemen get away with so much holding these days (so many holds on Bosa are ignored every game) that maybe we should just aim to have the best o-line. Doubt we do this though. Lynch loves drafting D-line talent and Kyle is so arrogant in his thinking that his scheme can overcome deficiencies in talent on the offensive side of the ball.

Shanahan does see Dobbs every day in practice. And he thought Allen could manage his offense and not change too much of the offense. But what he should've done was put Dobbs in at the middle of the 3rd quarter. Jaylon Moore and Jake Brendel didn't make it any easier on Allen either.

One big thing the Packers have going for them to allow them to do this & have some success with Willis in: They have a much more talented OL than the Niners.

You start Dobbs today and he might have possibly a little better success due to his mobility as he would need it behind this OL. His mobility and having no broken fingers would help his cause.

It's pretty awesome seeing a talented OL open up an offense and provide for a balanced attack - tough to deal with for defenses. The Lions' OL is the cream of the crop this year (unfortunately).

Agreed. The 49ers draft a ton of dline folks. Too bad Kinlaw sucked and had a bad knee that the 49ers knew about before he was drafted. The oline has always been forgotten by this regime. Nuts

With Armstead they (correctly) assessed that he was likely in physical decline. Healthy Armstead was in for around 78% of snaps for us. This season Armstead has been in for 46% of snaps for the Jags.

Great guy. Really good player. But poor value on his current contract unfortunately.

Because he doesn't want to state the obvious. Kyle doesn't like change. He's not about to "evolve" an offensive scheme he deems perfect. Why go through the hassle of changing the playbook to cater to Dobbs strengths, when you have Brock Purdy lite sitting on the bench. Someone that will do your bidding to a T. And that's what happened. Instead of bringing out an offensive scheme with some wrinkles and surprise plays, it was the same stale offense.

I swear fans and pundits have more imagination than Kyle. I was reading on different news sites about possibly putting Mason and CMC in at the same time so to confuse the defense. Or using Dobbs occasionally to change the offensive scheme.

None of that. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Kyle went with the same exact playbook he has all season. The playbook that has gotten the team to 5-5 and now 5-6.

Its gross. The clown needs to go ASAP.
