I think having 4 DC's in 5 years really took a toll on the identity of this team. They were about being a blitz/pressure package unit with demeco and Salah, then a zone coverage team with Wilks and Soreson.

Injuries aside we're just not using our defense the way it could be utilized.

they didn't blitz with demeco
and our offense was able to move the ball giving the defense quality chances.. this year we get to watch the defense be on the field more. That's never good

So True. I blame the offense more than the defense. We went from one of the top 5 teams in red zone offense to one of the worst. The worst team in goal to go. Defense played great last game short-handed. Special teams cost us early in the season. Score more points!

On Defense, It's a variety of things really. Injuries/bad personnel (Yiadom and Campbell always seem to give up big plays on 3rd/4th down when the defense could get off the field), players regressing ( Brown has been inconsistent this year and Ward has regressed as well), in addition to Sorensen failing to adjust in some games ( not brining more pressure after Bosa got hurt , or continuing to play soft coverage when the opponent just keeps taking quick underneath passes.)

Maybe they're just exhausted because the offense can't close out a game or convert first downs as often . Defense gets stuck on the field. We don't sustain drives.

Getting complacent and overconfident in the NFL is just...Im not sure whats the word I would use...foolish ?

Just because it was so successful it convinced Kyle to not invest in the oline ? Even thought the line ultimately was one of the main reasons for the SB loss ?

What about special teams ? Surely Luter Jr resulting in a muffed punt in the fourth quarter shoulve caused some changes, no ? Aw no, who needs stinky special teams right ?

This - agreed (unfortunately).

We need coaches with fire. Can Kyle rebuild the whole staff in one offseason?

He could start by replacing the DC and take it from there.

Bring Saleh back if at all possible
It's rebuilding time! Let's get O line and save top picks for WRs or for D. Idk what to do with our coaching situation but it needs change definitely.

i like Saleh but it's a step into the past
we aren't innovating here, just trying to recapture what we were, with an older roster
Niners are cooked. I think the worst thing about this team was that we had a real shot at the beginning of the season. Injuries decimated us early, and Aiyuk not being in playing shape, Pearsall getting shot 🔫 - this whole season has had bad juju on it.

At this point Niners need to play each game with the rookies and get them playing time. As a long time Brock believer i have to say that im disappointed that he hasnt been a more vocal leader. His snap on his throws is not there this season like it was last year. Deebo is older and slower. Juan Jennings is awesome but needs a supporting cast, and Im not sure Pearsall is the answer - like Aiyuk was for Deebo.

I think all in all the Management and Leadership need to have a tete a tete and rethink their formula for the next five seasons.

Id expect the Niners to make the playoffs again in 2027.

The Curse of Candlestick Point continues.
I remember Bill Walsh's first year when we won only 2 games, and I went to both of those wins. So, trust me when I say I have seen worse, and there is always next year. Stay Faithful.

Lots if arm chairing going on here. Understandable because of the disappointing season, but some of it is mired in projected speculation and pretty useless.

The truth is none of us know what it is Kyle needs or doesn't need to turn this around next year. When the season ends Kyle, Lynch and Jed will sit down and go over all of it. Maybe that'll mean Kyle decides to bring in someone to call plays, maybe it doesn't. Maybe that means they cut Purdy or they extend him (pointless to play him on a 4th year deal when that signals you don't trust him to be your guy). Maybe that means they move on from some vets and bite the bullet on their cap hit. Truth is we won't know if these decisions are the right ones until about a year from now either way.

And maybe someone finally questions Kyle's inability to Win the biggest game in the biggest moment.

The Problem is Kyle and John have been clinging to the 2019 team and doing everything they could to just preserve it. From running the same defensive schemes where even outside hires are expected to keep it the same and not changing our offense at all. We had lightning in a bottle and just couldn't capitalize. Instead of bolstering, we left no room for new players to even have a shot at a starting slot. There are a handful of players to keep aside from the rookies (Kittle, Warner, JJ, Purdy, Bosa). Time to move on. They can do it, just have to change their approach. The core has rotted.

we are nowhere close to that 2019 team
Yes, we are nowhere near it.

Our 49ers play the most consistent football of any NFL team.

We can consistently get to the redzone and then run 3 dumbass plays they will always end in a field goal.

We can also consistently allow anything less than a 3rd and 10 to be converted.

The best teams in the NFL right now have elite offensive lines.

The 49ers have chosen to do the opposite and invest in skill positions. It has failed miserably.

I mean, they basically have due to all the vet injuries.

injuries and a QB not playing well will do that.. don't act like it has never worked
