49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

the big red flags are the drafting of lance and the mismanagement of wilks and the hire of sorenson. that's why we need him to use all his creative genius on O to score points. let others pick players and hire the DC. get him back to being the innovator on O

It's 100% a TD if Juice doesn't fumble like an idiot. It was the right call to counter what Buffalo was doing. The player just choked.

At some point, people have to acknowledge that once the play is in motion, it's out of Kyle's hands at that point.

Now if he had suddenly thrown three passes after gashing Buffalo up and down the field, THEN you'd have a great argument for him blundering the possession.

I don't question the call one bit, I question this team's lack of mental toughness and basic fundamentals like ball security that we continually see. Now I get it, you all think a coach has nothing to do with it but ball security is most definitely part of coaching. 1.8 fumbles per game is not an anomaly.

Lots if arm chairing going on here. Understandable because of the disappointing season, but some of it is mired in projected speculation and pretty useless.

The truth is none of us know what it is Kyle needs or doesn't need to turn this around next year. When the season ends Kyle, Lynch and Jed will sit down and go over all of it. Maybe that'll mean Kyle decides to bring in someone to call plays, maybe it doesn't. Maybe that means they cut Purdy or they extend him (pointless to play him on a 4th year deal when that signals you don't trust him to be your guy). Maybe that means they move on from some vets and bite the bullet on their cap hit. Truth is we won't know if these decisions are the right ones until about a year from now either way.

And maybe someone finally questions Kyle's inability to Win the biggest game in the biggest moment.

Won't even be on the table as a topic this offseason. The focus will be on adjusting in order to improve enough to make the playoffs. No point in worrying about winning the SB if you can't even get to the postaeason.

It needs to be. Kyle has shown after 8 years that he still can't manage a game when it matters most.

If that was true he'd be 0-4 in the playoffs instead of 8-4. Those 8 wins mattered since they were all win or go home, too.

Gotta win regular season games again first and foremost. That's the baseline goal.

If you want to be the fan who loves a coach with the most regular season and playoff wins in history, so be it.

I care about Super Bowls. Winning them.

I'm thankful I was able to watch the Glory Days of the San Francisco 49ers.

Do you know who Marv Levy is @captveg?

Dude, I obviously want to win Super Bowls.

YOU f**kING CANNOT f**kING WIN THE f**kING SUPER BOWL WITHOUT WINNING f**kING REGULAR SEASON GAMES f**kING FIRST.

This team is struggling to win regular season games right now. You have to correct that first, and then worry about winning in the playoffs second. It's called rebuilding the basics that can eventually lead to winning the SB. Last I checked no team that missed the playoffs since 1933 has won a championship in the NFL, and you get to the playoffs by winning regular season games first, genius.

This is a great, great stat. Andy Reid being first is no surprise, probably makes it essential practice time. 9ers bottom 3 is 100% on shanny. No focus on the most basic parts of football

Turnovers have definitely been a problem this season. Niners were +10 last year and were 6th best. This year they are -3 and ranked 21st. Statistically turnovers, especially fumbles lost, have no discernable season over season pattern, but they seem to come in waves on occasion. Mason's fumble against the Cardinals is probably the worst one this season, but hard to point to just one play. In the end a season is it's own weird ethereal thing and sometimes that's just the way it is. Other 2023 playoff teams are going through their own funky years, too, such as the Bengals, Cowboys, Dolphins, and Browns.

This shows us just how valuable those first round D-linemen were for us; Buckner, Armstead, Bosa,

As well as that lower round stud we let walk in free agency: DJ Jones

It also shows how we can't bust when picking in round 1: Kinlaw/S. Thomas.

This defense was clearly built around the front 7, and we have slowly let those guys walk out of the building. Tried to replace them with F/A's but that hasn't worked either.

I know we coach ball security regularly. I mean coach Bobby T is considered the best in the NFL.

1.8 per game is definitely an anomaly for this team historically speaking at least. This is definitely the worst we've ever had over the past five years. Our rankings in previous years were:

2023 - tied for 5th best
2022 - tied for 8th
2021 - tied for 13th
2020 - tied for 19th
2019 - tied for 9th

I know it's impossible to keep them all but we sure missed Azeez, Jimmie Ward, Eman, and K'waun too. Eman may very well get a ring with the Lions this year.

49ers will be back and we will finish strong. This season has been tough for a lot of our players. From injuries to deaths, that is too much for a coach and players that are personally involved to bounce back. Prayers for everyone

Yes, do you think there are guys we could have let go of instead, if we had chosen to keep the players you mentioned?

Why do you all instigate each other so much under the guise of an anonymous online profile? I know that a number of zoners here know each other irl. I am guessing they are a bit more cordial with their thread interactions.

So you want online interactions to be more like real life?
