You can excuse injuries but you can't excuse making the same mistakes week in and week out. You can't excuse poor play calling. Poor personnel decisions, and poor game management have nothing to do with injuries. Again, it's not just about the wins and losses it's the how and why that I am focusing on. Losing because your out gunned is far different than blowing 3 4th quarter leads to teams you should beat.

and i don't think you can excuse injuries, they are a part of NFL football. over time it all evens out. every fan base thinks it is uniquely cursed but that's just not reality.

Other teams are as injured as we are this year? I think you may have missed the mark on this one. Just because you want it to be true so you can make your case against Kyle, doesn't make it true

we have no monopoly on bad luck or injury. and i think it's kinda lazy to put all the blame into well it's not our fault, it's bad luck. you don't get any better with that approach. you don't correct any mistakes, if you are a great team, just getting unlucky.

No one is putting all the blame into the injuries. You're trying to remove all blame from the injuries. No way Jose. Not up in here

kyle has been pretty awful this year. Can't argue that. But if I had to put money on what's hurt us more, Kyle or the injuries…. I don't know I may still go Kyle. But the injuries matter and you can't fire someone after a season like this 🤣🤣🤣.

if you think it can't get worse… let Kyle go to another team and dunk on us for the next decade. That will be worse

hey Smokey, what would you like to see happen? Do you want to see Kyle play out his extension? Are you ok with another 6 years of Kyle just keeping us competitive?

we're not making the playoffs this year. Are we allowed to talk about getting rid of the football genius after he misses the playoffs twice?

I would like to see Kyle stick around and see if we can rebound from this season. He's already proven he's a capable asset in terms of keeping a team competitive for Super Bowls and rebuilding a roster quickly. If over the next couple of seasons signs indicate otherwise, or he loses the locker room in the meantime, than I would be willing to look elsewhere.

Lol he's not going to rebound. There's no signs of life.

Everybody wants to pretend we don't have these aging veterans with no willingness to play rookies behind them.

The trey Lance lost picks suck. All the previous drafts behind last year's have been terrible too.

Saddle up for us sucking. Shanahans only making it worse at this point.

The team will be worse next year talent wise than this year. Look what's happened this year with just a minor drop in talent.

He's had 8 years. He's the longest tenured non super bowl winning head coach.

Pick your time. We can start rebuilding now and trade Kyle for picks or you can wait 3 years from now until he's worth nothing and blown his reputation entirely with multiple 5-7 win seasons in a row... Then you get nothing.

A la see Jimmy and trey Lance trades. Cut your losses while he's worth something.

I think this is the most shortsighted post of the day.

im more optimistic for 2025 than I ever was 2024

i think we'll get purdy at a relative discount
i think we learned our lesson on b******t negotiations
i think we'll draft o-line… our skill positions are set
i think we'll cut some old contracts. Bye juice. Bye deebo.
i think we'll have a good d coordinator
i think our special teams will be top-10
i think our defense will be top-5
I respect your optimistic outlook but will be shocked if much of it comes true.

Yeah probably not. I didn't guess this season correctly either. Who the f**k would have thought wed have multiple players with family emergencies the way we have.

Strange season for sure on multiple fronts.
80% of this forum is going to be so upset when Shanahan doesn't get fired, even though keeping him is 100% the correct move to anyone who isn't rash lol

you keep him with changes. have to look at what didn't work well and how to fix. that's why i don't like chalking it all up to poor luck. he's not doing a bad job imo, like 4-5 games where we should win, and something goes wrong not necessarily coaching related, like bell. but i've listed the red flags, the DC is one, the recent drafts is another. how about all the penalties also?

He's not going to dunk on us. He's barely over 500 in the regular season.

At worst we would see him like once a year.

I would let him win some too if we could actually win a SB one of those years.

He lucked into bosa. He lucked i to purdy. Take both of those away and we suck completely. Dont act like this is some castle he built. He lucked into it all.

Without purdy him and lunch would already be gone.

Hard to tell what the correct answer is without being able to look forward a couple years. The fire Shanahan crowd has a solid foundation to stand on. The emotional side of me agrees with them. The reasonable side of me still sorta agrees. On principle though, I can't get on board with sacking him after perhaps the worst lucked season in all of football

he built the roster friend. He didn't luck into anything. Stop being dense. We're where we are, last season and this season, because of him.

he lucked into purdy because a scout found him? Shanahan hired the scout.

he lucked into bosa? Q Williams is playing pretty great… we'd be in an "as good" situation with him.

got to give credit where credit is due. We were bottom dwellers before Kyle

I honestly just do not understand how people can think Kyle is dependent on Purdy moreso than vice versa. If nothing else you have the obvious success Kyle had with Jimmy G to use as a clear indication this thinking could be wrong.

Kyle has done something extremely rare in his time with the 49ers: contend for Super Bowls consistently over a 5 year period with two different QBs… neither of them elite. Who else has something similar on their resume? Andy Reid… Rex Ryan did it for two years.

see this is what i push back on. of course they lucked into brock to some degree. they don't leave him on the board that long if they knew he was QB1. it's too easy to do the everything good is him, and everything bad is twists of fate. that's false. he drafted lance at insane cost. he seemingly said no thanks to tom brady. he mismanaged the DC for 2 straight years now. we will have productive convo once we get real and address the good and the bad. no one sided he's perfect and everything wrong is from the gods. that's rose colored glasses.

theres no way in hell Kyle all of a sudden changes and doesn't treat Williams similar to how he treated Trey Lance.

This makes zero sense. I watched nearly every game Lance played in college at NDSU. They treated him like a fullback that could throw the football in a very run heavy offense. Lance was a heavy volume runner and not a guy who was ever shy about contact of any kind.

He and Williams are absolutely nothing alike as QBs.

I mean they are both bla……nvm

jk don't ban me

Would you rather have a coach/front office that doesn't take that kinda all in risk? It sucks it didn't work out and that happens a lot in the draft with QBs especially. And if we are ever down bad with a Jimmy G type QB again I hope we make the move all over again.

this is one of the worst aspects of the move. ppl conflate idiocy with having stones or being 'bold'. maybe rolling mr irrelevant out there takes more guts than drafting lance. i don't think drafting lance was bold. i think it was stupid, borne out of desperation. they had no clue how to rightly address the QB position. the reality is they could have signed someone like Darnold for nothing and he'd be 1000x better than Lance and keep all your ones, maybe win a ring. that would have been bold. they took the easy way out, just throw draft picks at the problem and pray. they demonstrate not much understanding of the QB spot over all these years, and kinda fell backwards into brock.

Easy to say when the story of Lance has been written. But I'm sure you were against drafting him from the jump.

i was. i didn't want to move up. i don't like giving up 3 years of ones. i understand the NFL draft is a crapshoot, and our team was pretty well setup for a competent QB to come in and play well. once we did move up, i wanted fields. he is better than lance and mac. there were like 15 red flags on lance. he didn't really play, he was lightly recruited, he didn't throw much at all, every game was a blowout so he wasn't really tested, he lost a year due to covid, and on it goes.

I was with you 100% on this. Draft thread has all the receipts.
